I read this in college 30+ years ago and loved it. It was my English class assignment. Afterwards, we had to “rebuild society” with just our (dozen or so) classmates. The project and book study lasted several months, possibly a whole semester. We were featured in the local (tiny) newspaper for our project.

They don’t bother me at all. Sometimes they’re good recommendations. And I’m cheap anyway.

I started to read that, got a few pages in, remembered seeing what your spoiler mentions, and decided that made everything weird enough that I don’t want to finish it. Surprises me that halfway in, it hadn’t been mentioned yet.

You can get a refurbished 2018 model on Amazon right now for 49.99. I had one for years, it always worked perfectly.
I upgraded to the 2022 because it had more storage, but if you’re not like me and insist on having most of your books ON the kindle, not just available to download, the smaller storage is fine.
The plus to Amazon refurbished is they give you basically the same warranty you’d get on a new one.
I bought my first kindle in 2009, more because “hey it’s cool I want one” than because I thought it’d be well used. It’s so convenient-I no longer buy purses based on how many books they’ll hold—so long as it holds my kindle, I have thousands of books available wherever I am.

Reply to Reading in social situations - unacceptable? by Foo321
I read on my phone. 🤷♀️
Hubby and I often are absorbed in our phones when we go out to eat-we probably look like we never speak to each other but we just like to decompress. Dining out is usually after work when we’re tired.
We talk plenty at home or when other people are around.

Reply to TIFU by not understanding what colour mauve is by ypash
This is one of few circumstances where my husbands insistence that the only colors are primary and secondary colors would be helpful. He’d have said there’s no such thing as mauve, and I’d have told him to use the green one.
