As a big walker here’s what I’d recommend for an epic walk:

  • Start in inner harbor near aquarium
  • head east exploring the piers using the waterfront walkways/boardwalks/pedestrian bridges
  • head east into harbor east and go up into little Italy
  • weave southeast through fells point until you get to Broadway Square
  • you can do some of exploring here. The loop of Thames St to Bond to Shakespeare is charming. Then head over to Pitango bakery and cafe on the water at St Ann and Fell St for lunch
  • If time: walk up through upper Fells Point to Patterson Park, then head back to Fells Point toward the water
  • walk back west on the waterfront boardwalk (green line on google maps) headed to Pier V. You can pick up the boardwalk in Fells Point in front of the Pitango on St Ann, or if you want a longer walk you can start the boardwalk a bit NE of there along the marina, starting at the eastern ends of Lancaster or Thames St, where they meet the water
  • once you get to pier V you can take the free city water taxi over to federal hill and walk over to the commercial area along/between Light St and Charles St for dinner

Honestly, you should just fly into Dulles (IAD) and take an Uber straight from there to Martinsburg. It’s a 1 hr drive. I just checked on Uber and it’s an $87 trip before tax and tip. Cheaper than a hotel room.

To put it in perspective, google maps says the drive from IAD to Union Station is 40 minutes during non rush hour. If you were driving during a busier time, it’s quite possible the drive from IAD to union station would take as long as IAD to Martinsburg. There is no reason to route yourself through DC unless you’re trying to sightsee or save money.

Agree. Eviction cases go through landlord/tenant court and the cases I’ve seen take about 6 months before there’s an eviction. Furthermore the police (MPD) do not carry out evictions, the U.S. Marshals do. OTA keeps a list of scheduled evictions that is updated at least monthly. Here is the latest list: https://ota.dc.gov/page/scheduled-evictions

Please also familiarize yourself with OTA’s evictions page: https://ota.dc.gov/page/guide-eviction. This page specifically says “Judicial process is required for all evictions. Any eviction must be pursuant to a court order, and must be scheduled and supervised by the US Marshals Service.”

And, most importantly, that OTA link says: ”Self-help evictions (where the landlord attempts to evict a tenant without the involvement of the US Marshals Service) are not allowed. Contact the Metropolitan Police Department if a landlord attempts a self-help eviction.”

I too grew up with country ham. A country ham sandwich from the gas station by our house was a special snack. The last time I saw country ham here was at the Petworth Safeway circa 2007 and I haven’t seen it since! Following this thread to see if anyone has any good tips.

I live and work on the green line and at this point only take the train occasionally, yet within a span of a few weeks I was on a car with a guy inhaling smoke from something that looked like a bong (but definitely not weed - no smell like that), and then I was on another car a separate time where I watched a drug deal of something in a little foil/paper packet (kind of like a gum wrapper folded up) and watched the guy snort it and also share a huge bottle of Bombay sapphire with a friend. Lived here 20 yrs and I don’t recall seeing behavior like that before. Oh yeah, I forgot — and in the latter incident, one of the guys involved pulled out a knife at one point!

This text service is great. In my experience you’ll get a response in about a minute and metro PD will usually board the train in a stop or two. Just make sure you include your car number (number printed near the top of the doors, iirc), line (green, red, etc), direction of travel and station you just left.

I switched to Safeway for all my prescriptions and toiletries because the CVS pharmacy was a sh*t show and items were constantly out of stock or locked up.
