Kind of, and no.

There was a guy in Pawlet not following town rules, threatening neighbors, and doing a shooting program. It's an ongoing struggle that has worried police/neighbors/town officials with how he is not following rules. We will see what he does now that the court has issued major fines and ordered him to demolish buildings.

As for open carry, absolutley not a problem, just another case of "seeing something else where and deciding its an issue needing solving here". It also is a nice bonus if it demonized gun owners and makes firearms "that much scarier/hard to own". I hope the open carry measure is stripped out.

The guy is going out of his way to plow close to cars to give the best service he can. Next time he is plowing you can go tell him that he doesn't have to get too close to the car and you can deal with it. Pitch it as making it easier on the plow guy and that way he can do a fast pass near the car and get done quicker.

Somehow airbnb is a magic scapegoat for all property and housing issues. People don't realize how many regular people use the system renting out their own property, or how much the hotels would love to squash the competition they have to deal with. It's easier to blame one company than to face the fact that Vermont will always have housing shortages due to its very conservative nature. Until towns allow actual dense housing or many environmental regulations magically "go away" nothing will change.

Mice are terrible! Nothing worse than trying to catch them yet hearing them in the walls as though they are taunting you.

Even exterminators will just set a ton of traps and keep changing them, so keep going with that if it's working. If you have an area outside you should do a bucket trap, with some water/anti-freeze (or something that won't freeze), it doesn't need to be reset with each kill. https://www.amazon.com/RinneTraps-Bucket-Outdoor-Compatible-Manufacturer/dp/B08SL6KJ29

Going through this myself. Solar would be great some day with batteries, but it is very expensive and they don't last all that long.

Likely route we are going with is a 10kw PTO generator for my tractor (~$2400) and a GenerLink switch at the power meter. No worries about gasoline, carburetors etc.. just use the same tractor I use all the time. While it is not "instant on" when the power goes out, its very efficient diesel, pretty much maintenance free, and relatively cheap.

It's their land, their choice what to do with it.

I maintain the ones on my property since I use it, some neighbors might, and I'm fine with the public using it. Someone started making their own bike trail through a sensative area, so I made those signs go away (the orange flags they put up) and they took the hint to use the established trail a short distance away. Other than that we put up "no littering" signs and people stopped tossing dog poop bags and trash so people are generally good.

Propane isn't much better. Price didn't go up as dramatically as other fuels, by our pricing is still $3 a gallon and will likely go up a bit through the winter.

I'm very glad we heat as much as possible with wood.

Hate to say it, but you are likely out of luck if you want it "soon". It's tire change over season you will almost certainly have to book 3 weeks out or so.

For central VT I always recommend Duxbury Auto.
