Please stop by frog and toad when you visit (Westminster) and you will find some neat things. If you visit the one on Hope street, you can also check what Stock Culinary Goods may have as a gift (ri sea salt from one of our ocean’s is neat if they like to cook). I don’t know if they have it anymore, but I bought my ex a spoon rest that was made out of an RI oyster shell and glazed with ceramic.

I went to Advanced Eye Care on N. Main Street years ago when I had a stye that wouldn’t go away (I get them every so often and this was one of the longer lasting cases). Usually they would pop and go away on their own, but this was aggressive and painful. They saw me the same day and referred me to RI Eye Institute on E. Manning street on the east side. Just days later, it was painfully removed. I dropped my original optometrist office and have been going to AEC since.

Hotel night audit shifts! Sunday-Tuesday are pretty slow nights so you’d be able to get some studying in too. If you prove to be consistent and show up, you can definitely get a schedule that works best for you. Hotels love reliable night auditors.

These areas are beautiful, but can be kinda isolating Driving more than 20-25 minutes is considered inconvenient in RI though so take that with a grain of salt, especially if folks are coming from heavier traffic cities like LA or NY. Public transportation isn’t ubiquitously convenient like NY though. And if you miss city life while in these towns, there’s the scary risk of a DUI after a night out for dinner date or a concert. With your budget, the east side can be an option and there are more options for great private schools vs the fewer options in barrington and EG + the convenience of being within the city

Sorry also wanted to add: freeplay barcade downtown. All you can play games like ddr and Mario kart or air hockey. If your group is up for it after a few drinks - can serenade him happy bday at Boombox Karaoke bar downtown. They have fun tiki like drinks that come in ceramic cat cups, and lighter drink options like sake. I’m too shy to sing karaoke but it’s always fun watching other people have fun with it

Kimis would be a good start. It’s dark and vibey in there but the playlists are always on point. The layout is comfortable too where it’s not awkward if it gets too busy. There’s a seating in a corner where your party would fit. They also have a selection of board/card games you could start the night with. Then salon downtown - fun music and vibey, pink neon lighting, a Photo Booth and frozen drinks. Frequented by demographic of his bday age imo. Have fun!

Eta: Kimis used to be a car garage/mechanic shop turned into a pretty bar! And has a fire pit outside.

Born and raised and genuinely love it here. Lived in the Midwest for a bit and also enjoyed that, but partly because I always planned to return once the job was done. My family immigrated from a country they escaped a genocide from, and this definitely isn’t a “war torn city” lolol. I’ve lived on the south side, east, smith hill, and the east bay. Each area had their own reasons I enjoyed about living in, and of course cons as well just as any neighborhood or city would. But at the end of the day of my 3 decades here, the pros have always outweighed them. I travel for work pretty frequently (mostly east coast like Boston, Philly, Baltimore and NY; and then FL and MIA) and from those experiences as enjoyable as those places are too, I’m thankful I have my return home to look forward to

There is a gallery reception this Saturday from 5-7 in Jamestown featuring a Cambodian photographer and her work. Most of her photos are of other south Asians/East Asians and their family, some of whom will be there to see their photos. Could be a good start there to meet that community of support for her.

Edit to add source: am Asian

I love elmwood. Like someone mentioned about providence overall, there are some colorful streets throughout elmwood and even west end, but then there a bunch of lowkey streets that feel ‘safer’ than others. I use ‘safer’ because it’s relative to a person’s comfort and experience
