Yeah, the monthly pass costs really need a refresh. The train from Salem to North Station is $16/rt. The monthly pass is $261. There were 20 non-holiday weekdays in January, so the $261 monthly pass saved a nice bit over paying $320 for individual rides. But most people I know are only going in three days per week AT MOST. So for them, thirteen pay-per-rides this month is $208 v. $261 for the monthly pass. Plus, the savings grows every time a conductor doesn't check tickets.

Weekday or weekend? As others are saying, parking outside and taking a train in is probably universally your best bet. If there are other considerations that make that a disfavored option, I would highly advise against trying to park in the North End. You won't find any street parking in the part of the city that you're looking at that has 6+ hour parking, so a garage would really be your only option. Metered parking IS free after 8 and all day on Sunday, so you could technically do it from 6:01pm-8pm (it's usually max two hours) and then be fine if you stay longer. If you're coming on a weekend, I've never had any trouble finding parking in the Financial District. That said, there are some very cheap (like $10 all-day) garages that I would still recommend for ease of having an actual address to navigate to.

Police don't throw the book at anyone, their teammates the prosecutors do. And police don't "make sure" the book is being thrown at the right person, they make sure the book recipient is someone that will be a likely win for the prosecutor. Often those are the same people, but there are plenty of times when it's not.

No, we don't. Modern aircraft do have real-time data streams. Airlines and manufacturers can monitor onboard systems remotely. But the flight data recorders are in a different league. These systems need to work every time, worldwide, with zero downtime no matter the situation. It's absolutely imperative that the full data stream be captured, without interruption, in every circumstance. Your satellite connection might be lost if the aircraft is inverted crashing into mountainous terrain. The flight recorder might record moment-of-impact or impact+ data that would be lost if it needed to be transmitted. This is still the best we're able to do.

Is your trash collector the kind of truck that lifts the can up and then inverts it and shakes it into the truck? Is so, just grease that thing up. I recommend Crisco.
