Beautiful! I'm headed there in August- any highlights? Will be in Van, Squamish and Whistler.

Tons of amazing hikes along the Sea To Sky between Vancouver and Whistler. Heads up, some provincial parks require you to have a day pass that you have to pre reserve (at like 7am PST) a month or two in advance in order to park and hike the trail. It's become wild; for example Garibaldi Provincial Park or some Cypress trails. Check out BC Parks website for more info.

Enjoy!

My favourite place on earth right here. Really want to scramble that central peak one day!

It's 30km off the beaten path along the bc side of rockies after taking a 70km dirt logging road. Its a delicate area so I unfortunately won't be sharing the info myself, but with some googling I am certain you'll come across it. Happy hunting!

Do you know the name of that purple flower? I feel like I recognize it from seeing it in the high sierras/California before but unsure if it's the same flower or what it's called.

So, where did you start? How far did you hike from the trailhead and what was the rise to get this photo? Did you day hike in or did you camp a few nights?

not_from_accounting t1_j2qg5t8 wrote

Check out Elfin Lakes - the trail head is not far from the Squamish city limits and the views at the top are amazing. Even better, and not just limited to Elfin Lakes (but I often used to time my hikes up there just for this) is that the Perseid Meteor Shower peaks on August 12th so any time out of the light pollution, and no clouds, could give you quite the experience.

Thank you so much for not spilling the beans. I have no clue where this is at and I would love to know, but I have my special places on this planet that I've unfortunately seen shared on social media and the sadness from seeing that is real.

Isn’t it more fun to post photos of places we won’t disclose so we can circle jerk everyone that knows it but also won’t say anything so everyone else that’s curious is shit out of luck and they can go fuck themselves? /s

Seriously, bunch of sanctimonious nonsense. You (not you specifically but the others) wanna keep something secret why share anything about it then?

Losers.

"here's all the info you need to find it, info you definitely didn't know before and can certainly lead you to exactly where this area is....but I won't just tell you where it is and instead I'll force you to do more than you should have to and find it yourself so I can somehow keep my conscience clear even though I basically told you where and what it was"

I don't mind in the slightest if you said you weren't telling people where it is and kept it to yourself, but to say that and also still give the correct info is...weird. It genuinely made me chuckle but I do know this comment comes off as asshole-ish...but lol

The people making this trek to this remote location likely also share your love for nature. I don't see many people going on long drives and hikes to trash an area. Those places you can usually drive up to the location and get your picture without doing all that work.

Cypress Provincial Park, just north of Vancouver as you head up to Whistler, gives a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains, sea, and city. You don’t even have to hike for the view if you don’t want to, there’s a great overlook from a car park.

It’s worth the stop, if you have 30 minutes to an hour to spare!

There is an app called AllTrails that I use, it shows local hikes in BC. It is a good resource on different levels and you can use it to track your progress. Very useful.

Sooo someone recommended this adventure years back when I was visiting Vancouver:

Widgeon Falls/Lake in Pinecone Burke Provincial Park. You rent a canoe/kayak early in the morning and paddle down Widgeon Creek about an hour to the trailhead. Then you camp around there and can hike to the falls or the lake. The lake seems like a pretty far walk, so we weren’t able to make it all the way, but the falls are beautiful.

Really solid adventure overall.

This, please make sure you are fully prepared. Each of the hikes I just mentioned takes, on average , 4 hrs to complete, with Panorama and Brunswick needing at least 10 hrs to complete. I highly recommend starting early in the morning like 5AM to avoid the crowd, that way you get to enjoy the hike and the view. 8-9 AM is usually the time the crowd shows up, you dont want that.

It’s a little bell you wear on your belt, so it chimes when you walk. It makes sure the bears are aware you walk there, so you don’t startle them and they won’t attack. It doesn’t scare them. Lol.
