I love space but this feels like something most people couldn’t afford, and even still the super rich would only try it once. I guess if they can make a profit that’s all that matters.
The only thing different about a space hotel is the view, getting a zero-g experience, and a few extra ways that you can die during your visit. Everything else can be done here on the ground easier, cheaper, faster, safer. How long can a guest safely live there? Aren’t astronauts limited to something like 1-2 years in space because of all the radiation? Does that mean staff have to sign waivers and be rotated every year?

public funds pay for services, even services you don't use nor are entitled too. the largest customers are governments for space travel now. the commercialization aims to shift that, shifting that also insulates the 'private companies' from large government budget swings. there are other US based rocket companies, SpaceX just won the bid. even NASA didn't build the original space proam machinery, it was contracted out, but those contractors were diverse aviation and industrial system companies. back then there was no practical thought of sending an everyman into space...ohh wait, I think that was Sally Ride, oops Christa Mcaullife was the teacher recruited as an astronaut, and might ve been a few others where NASA was trying to market the space program to the public so budgets didn't get cut doing science in space that has no monetization avenue at the time.

Reality is unfortunately not as kind to sci-fi visions. Not to mention some ideas turned out to be not so cool after some extensive thinking.
Flying cars for example seemed like the most awesome thing ever, but then you realize there would be a LOT more traffic fatalities and 9/11 revealed their potential use by terrorists. Which is most likely the reason why the flying cars we're actually seeing in production are autonomous.
Bigelow Aerospace was essentially a branch of a hotel-chain working towards developing space hotels? They tested BEAM with NASA and then shut down... Seemed like serious contenders for building the first commercial space hotel right up until they abruptly quit, supposedly because of COVID-19 and $1 million they were owed by NASA or something?

This is how many industries start - a product or service for those than can afford it but eventually the price drops. Cars, televisions, air travel, computers, and hopefully in a few decades space travel.

Not until they get free power and ignore entropy. In a few hundred years we might have the tech to sustain something like that, but until then there's always going to be a need for food, water, reaction fuel, vitamins, etc.
I know a lot of people shit on billionaires going to space when they could be doing more to help on earth, but I don’t see this as a failure of the individual billionaires. It’s a failure of government to tax properly.
Billionaires shouldn’t exist. If governments taxed properly, the middle class would be much larger and would have more use for the services provided by satellites and space industry and would self fund instead of requiring billionaires.
Space tourism will allow launch providers to increase their manufacturing capacity and thus bring the cost of launch down which will allow more countries to access space. More countries to put climate monitoring satellites in orbit to protect their populations. More companies can provide communications infrastructure in space and bypass censorship.
Accessing space is unquestionably a net benefit for all of humanity but there are better ways to maximize that benefit. Right now we’re minimizing it by finding it with billionaires.

There's an asteroid in the belt between Mars and Jupiter with more gold than all that has ever been mined on Earth.
That will be mined and refined, possibly in orbit, and over time manufacturing will migrate into space to join them. The window in which we have to land resources on Earth to process it and relaunch it will be maybe 100 years after it starts.
Every raw resource on Earth you can think of exists in far greater quantities in space, between Earth and the belt. Water, iron, copper, silica, you name it. Only plants, animals, and petroleum are more abundant planetside than in space.
And, of course, they will heavily defend it, and they will crush any effort to threaten them from the surface of the planet.
And if you don't think every oligarch on Earth will be onboard, you haven't been paying attention to recent geopolitics and how the mega-rich in Russia, America, Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, even North Korea all play nice together.
Who the fuck cares about the geopolitics of space mining in 200 years?
