They’re probably waiting for Serafina to open with its liquor license. I imagine they’ll want to keep the skyway open as late as that place stays open which hopefully is 2am each night.

For reference, the hotel bar closes at 8pm and American Whiskey closes at 8pm. I think Redds is at 11 these days but they close early if no one is there.

Bello’s is later, right? Hopefully proximity to the train draws a crowd.

Bellos gets completely full 5-7pm, when Ive been. I havent been later than 9 since before covid so Im not sure when they actually close. Google says 12 but thats not reliable. They havent opened their upstairs in years though.
I think the only successful bar downtown in McGoverns which does stay open until 1 and does have people until closing. Good variety in the crowd as well.

This is good news. Let’s hope it’s true.

I went to Essex County for Covid shots a couple of years ago, coming back down the hill walking up to the cut through and the locked doors made me feel so stupid, a guy came out and told me they closed it . Guess he felt bad for me with all my shopping bags .

I'm still hoping that gateway is a success so that we get more development and more resources in this city.

I don't see why they need to wait for restaurants to open to keep Gateway open later. It's a safe path for crossing the McCarter Highway.

Yo so on a night like tonight, when I got off the train BEFORE the slated 8pm closing, tough shit I get to walk through the rain, cuz they ain’t opened any of the restaurants yet? Fuck outta here.

I asked the same thing this week! I come home from nyc after 7pm. Need extended access

If they are receiving tax breaks they definitely should be open to the public later

I was in Bello's 2 weeks ago on a sunday and they sent us out promptly at midnight (even as we were getting chummy with the bartender). Given it was a sunday, it was dead except for my group.
And McGovern's will stay open to 3am normally.

This would be shocking if it’s 2am. Almost everything in Newark closes early.

Every bar that’s not a chain for commuters is open late at night downtown.
Kilkenny, Bar Vanquish, McGovern’s, Jimenez, City Lounge, 3 Levels, QXTs, Neptunes, Newark Local Beer, Lit 21 et al.

I get the feeling that once 777 McCarter is open and considerably rented out, that Gateway will follow suit and extend its hours -- or at least the demand will increasingly be there for it

Hope you’re right but still crappy to have this happen. If your connected to a transportation hub you should be open till atleast 10pm

Closes at 11pm or 12

10pm (per state law I believe)
