As you can see here. https://www.peacefulknights.org/

"Weekly church attendance is required (Christian church of their choice).  They are never required to believe any particular faith, just to hear for 1 hour per week about the One that is providing a roof over their heads.  And of course, it is our hope and prayer that their faith grows while they are with us."

That's a quote obviously I'm against it because of the title you would think it'd be obvious.

This is why I have issues with religious groups giving aid. I hope they actually help people but demanding they go to a service of a specific religion is bullshit and abusive

I mean I guess people who aren't Christians but another religion are just SoL

I can't help but wonder how people would feel about an organization like this enforcing weekly attendance to a Jewish synagogue or a Muslim mosque. Surely nobody would have anything to say about that, right?

Also this is basically admitting that you have the means and facilities to help people but are refusing to do so unless they subject themselves to 1 hour of propaganda a week.

They'd be screaming how this is a sign of the end times and how much Christianity is persecuted

This sorta comes to mind, not the same, but still.

Really, this is why we have gov't. Not for military bases in every other nation, but to help people.

Yeah, I find this gross and manipulative.

Buffmin t1_j8ejkos wrote

It definitely is. The person requiring help is powerless here. If one is desperate enough they will do whatever to get needed aid.

Same shit missionaries do "stop following your religion and worship ours or we won't bring you food anymore"

if anyone here is thinking "this doesn't sound so bad its only an hour or so a week and you can pick the church!" Let me ask you this. What if it were a Muslim group demanding this?

dogmomdrinkstea t1_j8ennfr wrote

Or even "idc if you don't believe in a god at all, we're forcing you to partake in religion in hopes you'll cling to it bc we know you're hungry/unhoused". What a fucking disgrace. Honestly culty. You wanna help people, genuinely? Help them without pushing your fairy tales onto them.

Yup. It's not that much different than a ceo asking the new employee for sex with their power dynamic

This take is really shockingly ignorant

“Demanding they go to a service of a specific religion is bullshit and abusive” - you can disagree with the approach but words matter, equating a relig. service requirement to abuse is absurd. The majority of people would not agree with that characterization.

“People who aren’t christians are SOL” - No, they will still be offered services discrimination free but are still subject to this private organizations mass requirement if they want to participate. If they are Muslim or another religion they can find Muslim orgs or mosques to render them aid, I imagine many do. If you give aid you are allowed to attach conditions to it.

Bc of their comment stating "it is our hope". Implies they're involved. They also haven't said boo about being against it.

Do you think it's wise to post controversial shit and not decry it while using inclusive language? We can pretend it means nothing.

madmanz123 t1_j8f1a9g wrote

No, I think people only put a certain level of effort to post things and dumb people don't follow links before downvoting because their too in a hurry to be outraged. It's a shitty policy, but I'm not going to assume the person who bothered to look up the details and repost them for our use is a shitty person by default because they didn't check enough boxes for you. Settle down and go be mad at the right people.

Considering they need all this grant money, sounds like "the One" putting a roof over their heads is the government.

For arguments sake, OP please clarify if you are for, against, or neutral about this.

ETA - thank you, now no one should be downvoting you. And your feelings are important!

Imagine if a shelter that required people go attend a Muslim prayer session once a week was given a grant like this. The same people who support this forced Christian service would lose their fucking minds.

There is nothing in the actual attached article explaining the “attendance.”

This in itself, makes me suspicious.
