I’ll be in Pennsylvania for around 12 weeks in the Annville area and I’m looking for recommendations on things to do and see. Anything in particular most out of towners miss or things I should lookout for? Thanks!

On the bright side, Lancaster County is not far away if you want to see Amish clip-clopping around in their buggies. The City and its fantastic eateries is 40 minute drive south, although Troegs Craft Brewery is a decent place to spend some time.
Agree. Head to Lancaster for anything interesting. Restaurants, coffee shops, artsy stuff, nice parks, cute shops, Central Market. Lancaster has "life" in it that is not to be found in Annville or the surrounding towns.
Lancaster Brewing Company as well. I've never been to, but they have some good beers.
Have not been to the Lancaster location, but I like the one near the Ike by Bass Pro. I'm not a beer drinker but the group I go with love the place. And if it's full, we just go over to Fiesta Mexico that's a short distance away.
You are not too far from Pottsville, PA. The Yuengling brewery tour is pretty cool.
Bube's Brewery and their limestone cavern is a better experience, imho.
Nasty place, especially the catacombs. I would never go back and never recommend it to anyone.

The Alabama State Memorial is a handsome piece of art located on South Confederate Ave just past the picnic area and before the dinosaur bridge ( you can see tracks on a few of the red sandstone caps). The 15th Alabama and a couple of other Alabama infantry units (forget which, maybe the 47th and a single-digit unit) fought the 20th Maine on Little Round Top, but that area is closed for major rehab work. Devil's Den re-opened just a few months ago. There may be a marker on Big Round Top to an Alabama unit but you have to look for it.
Add a ghost tour to the list, a lot of them are pretty hokey but it's still fun when the actors/guides are good.
Little Round Top is closed for the foreseeable future for renovations and restorations. The road to access Big Round Top is closed to vehicles but you can walk or bike it and still explore the Big Round Top. There is some parking and a bathroom near the road closure turn around.
Devils Den is mostly open, but there are closed off areas there, too. Just FYI.

You can easily burn a weekend in Gettysburg.
If you are into ww2 stuff a new ww2 museum opened up last year in Gettysburg. It’s called WW2 American Experience. It has mostly American ww2 vehicles like tanks, jeeps, trucks, half tracks but when I was there they had a German car and a Japanese car as well.

The cost of a season ticket is only about double the normal park entry. If you're going to do it once maybe spring for the season pass so you'll always have it as a backup in a worst case scenario.
If you are into civil war stuff, be sure to check out the big civil war museum in Harrisburg. Speaking of which, if you like tours of pretty buildings, our state capitol is definitely in the top 5 on beauty.

Hershey park is closed for another month or so. I learned the hard way. Stayed out in Hersey for a few days just as a little get away from home thing.
They got a mean jerky shop on the main strip tho! Amazing jerky.
There are a number of railroad museums, and seeing some of this old hardware (steam locomotives) up close is very impressive.
You can also ride one at Strasburg. Lots of options for the kind of ride you want as well.
Eat at Shady Maples.
Truly a cultural experience.
Yes! Maybe pick up a few bugs while you are at it. Average buffet not worth the long drive, imho.
Let me guess, you are coming up from Ft. Rucker to go to Ft. Indiantown Gap. There is a good Civil War Museum in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania's state capitol is one of the most beautiful in the country. The State Museum of Pennsylvania is also pretty nice.
The Cornwall Iron Furnace state historical site is nearby and it's pretty impressive. Hopewell Iron Furnace NHP is not too far. Valley Forge is a little but further but pretty good. Hawk Mountain. Historic Ephrata Cloister is pretty cool. Landis Valley Farm is great.
You're not too far from Lancaster for the Amish life.
Pennsylvania has some of the best rail trails in the country.
Close, I am going to Ft. Indiantown Gap but not coming from Rucker. I’ll add the civil war museum to list, and also spend some time at the capitol. I planned in going to Valley Forge as well, thanks!
I was stationed at Rucker for flight school back in the 80's.
You could do the Civil War Museum and the Capitol on the same day. Harrisburg has a nice waterfront, take a walk and grab some lunch.

I figured it was something aviation related. I haven't been to FIG in years. They used to have Huey instrument simulators there. The night sky in that area is pretty nice, lots of stars.

Recommending a scenic ride through Amish country to see their horse and buggies, clotheslines, and scenery.
A lot of covered bridges too.
If you want to take some further trips, look into Longwood Gardens, which is absolutely amazing.
I saw Aviation mentioned, you may want to check out the Piper Museum in Lock Haven, particularly for a schedule of fly-in events.
Find a cave or two to explore. Penn's Cave is a boat tour, but there are others that are fun walking tours. Also consider a coal mine tour if history is interesting to you.
I second looking into Harrisburg Univ concert schedule, they have a bit of everything and year-round as well. I'd say most attendees aren't even college aged at most of the shows.
Carlisle area has a ton of car-related events and museums. I'm not even "into" cars but I enjoyed that a lot.

It really depends on your interests. There are a ton of little ice cream shops to find. If you like history you smack into something someone marched through or fought on frequently. The Cornwall Iron Furnace is close to Annville and is the only intact iron furnace left around here, I believe they cast the canons used in the revolutionary war.
Lots of pretty trails, especially Mt. Gretna.
In Lancaster county, there’s lots of tourist stuff, I enjoyed wandering around Lititz. The Tomato Pie cafe is good.
Check YouTube for videos on touring towns in Lancaster county. I’ve seen videos on Hershey as well.

Outdoor fun: Swatara State Park. Rails to trails, specifically Lebanon Valley Rail Trail. Mt. Gretna is a cool place to explore. Hershey is nearby.
Food: Seltzers Smokehouse in Palmyra for Lebanon bologna. Funck's restaurant is a fun place to eat and drink. Hoss's is a local buffet chain.
Memorial Lake is a great place to chill on a blanket or bike or walk. Swatara State Park has great hiking/bike trails. In Harrisburg: Midtown Cinema, Midtown Scholar bookstore, Suba (a great tapas place!), check out Harrisburg University's website for a concert calendar, great outdoor shows right beside the river in Harrisburg (in spring/summer). Get a fancy drink on the veranda at the Hotel Hershey. There are a couple of hiking/walking trails around the hotel. Great views of the park and the town from up there. Don't miss Central Market in Lancaster.

As others have suggested, there's lots to do in Hershey, so you can plan on spending more than one day there. Depending on when you get here and if you like hockey, you can usually get tickets for the historic AHL franchise Hershey Bears.
From Annville/Ft. Indiantown Gap, NYC is about a 2.5 hour drive. If you park in Jersey City or Hoboken you can take the subway (PATH) directly into the WTC and lower Manhattan. It makes for an easy day trip.
DC isn’t too far, either. If you don’t want to drive into the city (and pay an assload to park) I’d recommend one of the outlying metro stations on the Red Line. They are the first ones you come to if you take US 15/I-270 from central PA. Look at Shady Grove or Grosvenor/Strathmore Metro stations, I know they have parking garages.
I was just thinking of that. I’d like to take the train to NYC and Philly because I’d rather not drive my truck in those big cities. Thanks for that advice it will definitely help

If you like snacks and will visit Gettysburg, I’d visit nearby Hanover with their Utz chip factory tour and the Snyders, Renovah, and Utz outlet stores.
There’s tons of Amish and Mennonite stuff in Lancaster County, and especially if you are Christian I would highly recommend the Sights and Sounds Theater and watch one of their amazing performances (I say this as a non-Christian). (Btw Lancaster is pronounced “Lang-custer” here)
In Harrisburg, the National Civil War Museum is huge and great if you like history, and getting a tour of the state capital building is pretty neat too (beautiful architecture imo).
In Reading, they have a cool pagoda you can visit that overlooks the city. I am unfamiliar of other cool sites to see that are somewhat safe, but I am sure someone else can steer you in that direction.
Lebanon does have a history museum (Stoy Museum in the historical society) but it is nothing compared to Gettysburg or Harrisburg, and idk if there really is any other tourist draw to the county unfortunately.
In general though, as someone from between Annville and Ft Indiantown Gap originally, I would say your best bet to just find something cool to do as a tourist outside of Gettysburg would be in Lancaster County, as they have been a hot tourist destination for a while with a diverse amount of things to do, especially if you like learning about the plain folk groups.

Lititz is a cute small town. Show up Saturday morning. Get breakfast and walk around small shops

When are you going to be here? Swatara Creek State Park is at the end of post. Gettysburg is about an hour or so. Valley Forge is an 1:15. Steamtown (National train museum) is 1:30 or so. Drive through Dutch Country and get your picture taken at Blue Ball and Paradise. Lots of smorgasbords in Dutch Country. Watch for shows at Hershey Arena. Civil War museum in Harrisburg.
