I find it intuitive, but then I'm a programmer so that might play a role. What information do you think is missing though?

I’m a magician and I find this intuitive as well.

I wonder how that relates to illusions, if you didn't just bring that up to say it's intuitive either way. The reason I brought up programming is that in the process of codifying problems, we have to break them down in our heads, and there they can often look like graphs - which is what this is. So I thought it could be that other people aren't as used to graphs as I am.

Compared to regular brackets, the only thing that's missing is the match scores (ideally for the matches and the penalty shoot-outs separately).

Im also a programmer but there is nothing to show whether the next matchups are Croatia-Argentina or Croatia-Morocco

The next circle for the semifinals is split vertically to denote Argentina/Croatia and France/Morocco.

So true! My bad. Still think it would be nice for lines to get thicker, at least visually.

There is if you look how the space for semi finalists forms

I'm not a fan of football, but using team logos instead of country names makes this pretty hard to follow for a casual viewer.

Also repeating colors for different teams is confusing and doesn't really help with team recognition.

It also doesn't show the match scores which sports brackets usually do.

And it doesn't provide any information about the teams rank coming into the tournament, which again brackets usually do.

This format would look cool printed on a tee-shirt at the end of the tournament. But personally I don't see it as a good reference during the competition.

Teams having a rank before the tournament is not something anyone really tales seriously in football
