What are the Top 5 films you think got snubbed from a Best Picture nomination?

I'll limit myself one movie per director even though I think some directors have been snubbed pretty bad on multiple occasions. Anyway, here are my choices:

  1. The Dark Knight
  2. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
  3. Alien
  4. 2001: A Space Odyssey
  5. Drive

HONORABLE MENTION: Sin City. It's the type of movie that the Oscars would never nominate regardless of the impact it had on how films were made at that time. A truly groundbreaking film and a slept on masterpiece. The Best Picture nominations that year were also mostly pretty weak. I highly recommend this movie if you have not seen it.

Oh ya. I would've included both Blade Runners. Children of Men should've been nominated that year, nominees were not on it's level. Prisoners got robbed as well. I think Midsommar and The Lighthouse got robbed from 2020 Oscars.

Midsommar was one of the worst and most boring films I've ever watched. The story was non existent and it's runtime was waaay too bloated, there wasn't a single interesting character, and the acting was bang average at best. What was it that you found best picture worthy?

I didn't think the story was boring in the slightest. I thought it was compelling to watch Dani's journey throughout the film.

Then of course the great acting, cinematography, and dialogue. It's definitely not for everybody.

Almost nothing happens in the entire film. 60% of the run time is characters just sitting down/eating/being high without anything meaningful happening, 20% is just girl feeling sad, and the other 20% is excessive violence/absurd screeching. It felt like the film thought it had some clever feminist message to impart but it never got to it. None of the decisions made in the film make any sense when considered for more than 5 seconds.

I watched the film due to it getting hyped up but I couldn't find anything worthwhile in it at all.

In regards to the Dark Knight. I like it a lot less than I did in 2008. To be honest, I only just watch the joker scenes on YouTube. I can’t tell you the last time I actually went to sit down and watch the film in its entirety

Oh damn, really? For me, Dark Knight and Batman Begins are aging like fine wine. Rises however I like significantly less than when I saw it in theaters.

Oh, so those are the movies you think should've won that year they were nominated? I'd agree with some, but I think Inception should've won at 2011 Oscars. I think Memento should've won the 2001 Best Pic, but it wasn't even nominated. I already included a Nolan movie though, so I didn't want to include another.

All of those are amazing movies you listed though

I think Memento and Pulp Fuction ran into the same problem. New directors doing something diffrent. The oscar committee are a bunch of "seasoned" vets that really dislike people messing with thier cheese.

Inception was another great year... I wouldnt be upset if it won, not mad at the winner that year and even True Grit deserves a nod. Glad social network did not win.

I don’t usually look at what’s an Oscar winner when watching a movie. I go to movies to be entertained and to appreciate the art and effort put behind them. I don’t think movies need validation from trophies and award nominations. Some people who make the movies may think they need validation in the form of awards and nominations, but as a consumer, I could care less what’s nominated and what isn’t. A movie I like is a movie I like and that’s enough for me

The Oscar’s are a farce, we shouldn’t put much stock in what they care about. I understand and like what you’re getting at. My concern is that we have to judge films and have actors compete in an award circuit when it should all be subjective.
