What are some of your favourite comedy films from the 1990’s - Early 2010’s

Growing up in that era was so entertaining. So many seminal films that informed my humour and my lifestyle in my teenage years. Got the buddy cop films like Rush Hour & 21 Jump Street. The big mainstream family ones like Bruce Almighty, Big Daddy, Anchorman and Nacho Libre. Then the stoner comedies Harold & Kumar, and into the late 2000’s the Rogen & Apatow comedies, is 90’s kids had it so good. My personal favourite is Hot Tub Time Machine. The nostalgia I have for that film. Along with the Hangover and Jump Street, that was the peak imo.

That’s got to be the worst part of the 2010’s/2020’s in cinema, that there was no comedy really. No movies to quote with friends, teenagers nowadays don’t have stoner comedies or anything.

So, if you could give 3 of your favourite comedy films of that time, what would they be?

Old School 2003, Anchorman 2004 and Tropic Thunder 2008,. Between those 5 years my friends and I pretty much only spoke in quotes of these movies and similar ones.

Super Bad, American Pie, Talladega Nights, 40 Year Old Virgin. All were good dirty comedies.

Too many to name, but Bad Boys, Meet the Parents, Happy Gilmore, 40 year old virgin, Cable Guy, Something about mary, etc. Pretty much every Judd Apatow movie on the 2000s is in there as well. I'm also a gigantic Todd Phillips fan. Even his lesser work like School of Scoundrels is wildly funny to me. Road Trip, Old School, Starsky and Hutch, The Hangover, etc are classics that I can watch non stop.

From the 2000's - Borat. Hands down the funniest film of this century. 90's comedy films were a bit sparse but probably Death Becomes Her. Bruce Willis playing the put upon husband was fantastic.

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Pure, gory, brilliance.

I can’t really deal with most American comedies, not like a phobia or anything just that the humour from that period in American comedy is just too much (thinking about Farrelly Brothers films here)

And yet are probably the most loved cult classic modern comedy, I think it’d take a US bomb for that anyday. They’re extremely British also, yet many Americans I’ve asked said they loved it too. (Plus Shaun only opened to 607 theatres, and they both overperformed massively for what they are. The trilogy made 150 mil on a budget of 41 mil in total.

I don't go good with gore. I make exceptions, but I tend to avoid scary/gross movies, that scene made me sick for a while. I'm not ashamed of anything. :)

NOW I know to read thru the parents guide on IMDB (I know, I know), but I did not at the time 😭

i recently watched Idiocracy and that movie is way better than i remember and sadly a little too prescient

also not "early 2010s" but Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is a rare gem in an otherwise comedy desert

TALLADEGA NIGHTS is an unending, politically correct ridicule of the Bible Belt, Southern white men, Christianity, Jesus Christ, the family, and American masculinity. Its constant jokes are either hit or miss, or offensive to a good many people, especially committed Christians. The movie also contains strong sexual references, excessive foul language and strong homosexual content. This truly is one of the most blasphemous, politically correct summer movies ever released by a major studio.
