I can't stand them. Every time I try to give on a shot, it's literally terrible every time.

Blade 1 is probably the only super hero movie I actually like.

really? none of the x-men movies or other marvel movies prior to infinity war/end game do it for you?

Ah, I forgot about the first X MEN. Okay, that gets a pass from me, too.

Not a fan of avengers or Thor and those ones.

Super with Rain Wilson, too. Although, more of a vigilante than a "super" hero. He doesn't have powers. Actually, and one or two of the earlier batman films. I guess, I'm not a fan of the newer super hero films.

The thing that makes most movies enjoyable or at least watchable is plot and dialogue/character interaction. Black Adam failed at all of those for me, typical of most DC movies. I'd say it was even worse than WW84, which is a damn low bar. Such superficial attention paid to everything the movies get boring and make me think money is the sole reason DC movies exist at all, with no attention or care about the actual art. There's no pride there.

I only watched the entire movie because I wanted to see if there were any redeeming qualities at all, trying to see if the director maybe got lucky at various parts. Nope, bad from start to finish.

Most of the Marvel flicks had great dialogue and characters, and humor at just the right times. Enough to keep me interested in what happens, often making me care about what happened with the characters. Nat and Clint interaction in Endgame was a good example. DC seems to butcher those interactions.

one thing I liked (sort of) was the twist in the middle of the film. when they imprisoned The Rock, I thought that the film was ending with more holes than swiss cheese but then there was more. but other than that, I thought the effects and fight scenes were pretty good. everything else for sure fell flatter than a pancake.

Most of the "comedy' was cringe too. Except for the scene when the giant dude accidentally smacks the flying dude (i dont remember their names) that one got a chuckle.

Overall though, I thought it was entertaining. Nothing that would hold up a whole franchise though imo.

achenx75 OP t1_j653id7 wrote

yeah, I describe it as entertaining and nothing really more. I used to love the subtle comedy in early 2010's superhero movies but boy oh boy is it the epitome of overdone now. Thor: Love and Thunder is probably the prime example for this.

Thor 4 was garbage. For me though, ONLY Ragnarok was entertaining, the first 2 bored the shit out of me.

Marvel is getting tired. They need to give VFX teams a break and stop pumping out movies and shows every other month.

I do find myself struggling to play catchup with all the movies they pump out now. But people will still pay to watch them...it's me, I'm people.

It’s almost as if it were based off a comic book. geez

following source material is one thing. (so far, The Last of Us is nailing it)

but it doesn't mean you have to execute it in such a familiar way. the plot and how they deliver it can be altered to make it more unique. even the VFX showing off Dr. Fate's powers could be executed in a way to better differentiate it from Dr. Strange.

croninsiglos t1_j65359f wrote

Marvel and DC have always had similar and competing characters.

It’s similar on purpose.

Not really a novel opinion here

achenx75 OP t1_j652fqf wrote

Not an opinion, I was asking a question. I didn't say every new super hero movie was like this. I was asking if people watch new super hero movies and sort of fit it in a "super hero movie rubric".

They had me up until Endgame. I’ve watched a few since then and I’ve just no interest anymore.

I loved Thor: Ragnarok and managed to drag myself to the cinema to see it, and boy did that add the final nail to the coffin.

To me, Endgame was probably peak Marvel...maybe peak super hero movies lol.

Spiderman: No Way Home and Shang-Chi are probably the ones most worth seeing after that.

I thjink that a superhero movies fatigue is begining to be felt.

i think it's been felt for a few years now lol. but it's such a big genre in the industry that is easily quantity over quality, now more than ever.

I’m not familiar with any of the comic book lore behind any of this stuff but it was pretty wild how Black Adam (or the 25-35 minutes of it that I made it through) was so painfully generic & plastic that it felt like something that was made in like 2005. It had no soul, direction or perspective whatsoever.

It really was the ultimate studio ploy to sell toys & vanity project to make The Rock look cool.

The last one I enjoyed was probably The batman and James Gunn's suicide squad because of how different they were and how good they were visually. MCU movies are not only quite generic but also really bad to look at visually with all the murky lighting to hide the obviously bad CGI.
