Curious if anyone if organizing anything
I mean it’s not surprising, first time i seen a confederate flag was 10 years ago outside of cherry hill.
God damn it people are so stupid.
Yeah, and they’ve only gotten dumber and more outspoken since 2016.
Always been that dumb. They just got louder.
In egg harbor I saw someone with a half American half confederate flag. So weird
That is because they gaslight on the protests to get everyone to ignore the racism.
Racists on one hand and people that don’t see the value of protesting on the other, I think. I’ve seen a lot of the latter over the last ten-ish years. So if it helps, it’s probably not just racists but also cynics.
Thank you for asking the question! Bummed I didn’t see your post until after the Newark protest started.
Welcome to reddit
Imagine someone making this statement, using someone beaten to death then caring about upvotes? Or trying to get upvotes from this tragic incident.
Upvotes = visibility
Nowhere am I fishing for upvotes, I simply made an observation about how many people were downvoting the post

Decent percent of population are racists.
Also this post title reads as "will there be riots about this?".
Doesnt read like that at all lmao
To me it does
So police reform protests = riots to you? The Fox News machine is working I guess
Sounds like a you problem tbh
That’s not how I read it.
This is how I read it
Decent percent of the population equate police reform as rioting
I am all hands down for marches for police reform, meetings for police reform, movement for police reform.
'Protests' for police reform read as riots. It has been since BLM 'protests'.
> 'Protests' for police reform read as riots. It has been since BLM 'protests'.
To partisan idiots. Are you surrounded by idiots who tell you they're all riots and cities are being burned down? Have the courage to correct them. Are you one of those people? Stop it, then.
I wish I could upvote your comment 50x. I've heard comments like that and will correct people when I have the energy. I had started to type a very long response full of examples I have personally witnessed over the last few years, but I'm not going to change any minds here. Racist people are close minded shitheads. I only correct them when they say something to me personally. I cannot tolerate racist people thinking I'm part of their club just because I'm white.
Yeah, to you

In addition to inability to read, your post history shows you dont know what the word socialism means. You are an a-typical Fox viewer.
I do not get offended when I get insults from people, for it usually means insults is the peak of their intellect.
You sound like the same white people who are now geriatric liars who don’t want to admit that they didn’t in fact support MLK like all of them pretend to when they talk to their grandchildren.
I surely didn't support MLK. Was too busy not existing back then.

There's a protest in Newark tomorrow at 12:30: https://www.insidernj.com/press-release/rally-to-demand-justice-for-tyre-nichols-beaten-to-death-by-memphis-police-and-carl-dorsey-shot-to-death-by-newark-police/
Thank you. Hopefully I'll being some redditors there!!
If there is anything happening in Jersey City and Newark areas next weekend, I'm down
Why is it so impossible to play any video on these God damn news websites

While at it, let's make them doing something other than waiting in the corner to give tickets!
https://www.npr.org/2021/11/08/1052957246/why-philadelphia-has-banned-low-level-traffic-stops
Philadelphia has already implemented the Driving Equity Act, which should be nationwide.
Copied highlight from the article:
The new legislation bans stops for:
Driving with a single broken brake light
Driving with a single headlight
Having a registration plate that's not clearly displayed, fastened, or visible
Driving without an inspection or emissions sticker
Bumper issues
Minor obstructions (like something hanging from a rearview mirror)
Driving without vehicle registration within 60 days of the observed infraction
While these low-level offenses will no longer lead to interactions between police and drivers, such infractions will still result in a ticket that is either left on the driver's windshield or mailed.
I drive through Philly and always have. Driving in certain areas there has gotten more dangerous as people think they can get away with more, and the cops seem to be absent.
I'm all for the cops to stop being revenue generators, but lax enforcement is happening all around and leading to other issues.
I watched a Dodge Journey with no visible tags clip another car while changing lanes last month, smashing the rear bumper of the other vehicle into the tire so they couldn't drive safely. Then the Journey took off. I have a dashcam and pulled over with the other car. Unable to see any ID on the vehicle, police seemed to not really care and said "we can't do anything as there's no registration visible. since we don't really enforce that anymore, it's becoming a problem for these hit and runs. Take it up with the city".
It still doesn't solve the problem of them sitting and watching for those infractions. Philly just eliminated the discretion officers can use to decide on it. There is no incentive for the cops to not ticket these kind of offenses, no need to interact, just leave the ticket.
Wow, that’s stupid. “There’s been a lot of violence against brown people, so let’s just stop enforcing vehicle safety standards as an olive branch!” Talk about not getting anything done.
First, no one is saying to stop enforcing vehicle safety standards. We just do not need cops enforcing non-violent scenarios when we can easily have cameras or drones in place to catch vehicle violations. I would even support reallocating police funds to traffic enforcement agencies so that they can expand and acquire the technology and support to do their jobs.
Second, we should limit the situations where we use cops since they have been proven time and time again that THEY ARE RACIST. They use traffic violations as a cover to act on racial profiling. Studies show that black or hispanics are more likely to be pulled over and that they are more likely to be ticketed than white drivers. Below are two links that show the data on this issue:
https://crimeandjusticeresearchalliance.org/rsrch/racial-disparities-in-traffic-ticketing/
https://academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/article/1/4/pgac144/6652221
If anyone is interested in learning and understanding the numbers that show police brutality is an epidemic, I highly recommend checking out and even donating to
Isn’t it more reasonable to say that Black and Hispanic people are more likely to drive vehicles under disrepair because they are statistically poorer than non Black and Hispanic people? Maybe we should have some sort of agency that inspects vehicles for safety violations? Like a motor vehicle agency? They could even do those inspections on an annual basis!
Oh wait, most state motor vehicle agencies no longer do safety inspections because… reasons?
https://haynes.com/en-us/tips-tutorials/what-know-about-vehicle-inspections-all-50-states
We don't need police for traffic violation citations (see university cops, many of whom aren't peace officers and have no policing powers).
Put the budget towards non-violent answers to problems "solved" by violent police and you'll find your tax dollar goes further.
We have to change hiring and extend training to 3 years. We also need to scrap our current curriculum at the police academies. We also need to reduce the responsibilities of the police and starting with no traffic stop. We have other means to deal with traffic violations. We need to start early retirement of veteran police officer starting with command. This process to may take multiple generations.
Was thinking the same
Those cops were so racist
You don’t get the big brain award for saying “oh see they kill white people too!!” or “see, black cops can kill too!!”
Police departments are historically racist institutions. Police brutality on anyone is unacceptable. Both of these are true. Lick the boot harder.
As someone in another sub said, "All cops are one race: Cop."
All 5 Officers were black though 🤔
Doesn’t matter, it was a racist act. Period.
So if a white cop kills a white dude is it racist?
Those police officers who acted wrongly will be penalized to the highest extent of the law . There has already been enough protests with mobs rioting and destroying their cities. There’s no need to defund the police or protest . In New Jersey we don’t have the problems that go on in those other states. Please support your local police !
Nah, police violence and abuse of power is a systemic and nationwide issue. If you don’t want to protest, don’t; but telling people affected by police brutality to not only NOT protest but to support those very organizations is wildly insulting.
That incident has nothing to do with New Jersey. In New Jersey we do not have those problems . Those cops that acted wrongly will be dealt with by the Tennessee justice system accordingly. There are differences between peaceful protests and rioting and looting which is what has happened in Baltimore, Furgeson, Chicago and New York just to name a few. Burning down your cities and committing crimes is not solving the issues, it is very insulting to true victims of police brutality.
But New Jersey DOES have those same problems.
good on you for finding an example from the last 7 days, because yes this is systemic and nationwide.
but the poster you're replying to does not believe you, because he has had nothing but pleasant experiences with his local cops at the deli
Tell me you watch too much Fox News without actually saying it.
My guy. You're ignorant if you believe this isn't possible in NJ.
fwiw, it's clear that we did not protest enough in America after George Floyd's murder, since that scorpion unit was not reviewed and they were allowed and seemingly empowered by their culture to do this to this man. so we must protest more...shut down more highways and tunnels, until the message is heard and actions to prevent this are taken.
people aren't kidding when we say, 'no justice, no peace. if we don't get it, shut it down." cops can be part of the solution or remain the entire problem.
Fuck the local PD. Way too many of our taxes go to outfitting them like they're going to goddamn war and for them to bring 5 squad cars when they pull over people for traffic stops.
And no, this isn't Newark or some shit. It's near Chatham/Madison. Where the worst crimes imaginable are teens loitering outside CVS or someone planting a tree the HOA doesn't like
It’s a state by state issue. NJ has addressed tons of shit but at the end of the day are you signing up to be a cop? It’s a certain type that does and until all these people protesting it sign up why would it change more?
Protesting isn’t going to fix it. Vote and run.
I tried to be a cop but couldn't because I'm colorblind (I didn't know). Loads of my friends joined and made friends inside. The mentality is collective, you adopt the personality if you didn't buy into it you'll conform or get pushed out.
Change from inside is almost impossible
My one buddy is a dead head and plays in a band in ASBURY. He's a port authority cop. He's the most peaceful person I've ever met and he does not have a complex. I should add that he just hates smelly crack heads at pen station .
he's sadly an exception rather than the norm
Port Authority cops are legit, respectful and professional. All cops should be like Port Authority cops.
Just a heads up - looks like you double posted this comment
It’s just a low effort shit post anyway /s
I've learned that shows of solidarity are important too.
Solidarity is vital. Change doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
But policing has been systematically designed over decades to appeal to a certain kind of person. Almost every officer who does try to change anything from within or even hold other police accountable is chased from the job. It would take a massive influx of like-minded people to join the police AND the police unions (who have insane power and influence.) Even if a bunch of reformers tried to join, how many of those representing the status quo would do the same? How many current lifers would just stay? When the police realize they’re being “infiltrated” by reformers, do you think they’ll just let it happen? I’m not saying protesting will fix things either but reducing it to “if you want change, just join a broken system” doesn’t seem like a viable option either. Honestly, I don’t even know what would fix policing at this point. When rot spoils the bunch, you don’t add good apples in hopes of removing the spoil; you have to start the barrel from scratch.
Cops are here to enforce laws and laws are made for the wealthy. It’s not going to change it’ll never change. Live your life as best you can. Most black Americans never get arrested never deal with cops outside of speeding tickets or calling them for their own need. Same goes for most Americans. These protests will only end in rioting.. which is exactly what happened in many of them last night…
Sounds about white.
Yeah cops are only white all over. There’s never been enforcement people in any other country.
I can’t imagine why our youth in America are worse off than previous generations…. Fuck me
Talk about a “whoosh” moment
I agree with your first sentence but the rest is pure rubbish. Not all protests are riots. And if protests didnt work, we wouldnt have half the liberties in this country we do now. Systemic change can be slow but if you dont try, nothing changes.
Protesting doesn't change things overnight, but it does allow communities to get together to focus on what needs to change, brings awareness to issues that would usually be ignored, and is a strong reminder that the power lies in its people.
What we need to do is understand the root issues behind these racist acts and violent displays of force by the police. That's where demonstrations, protests, and rallies can help. They can provide communities with forums to educate them on what's happening and motivate them to fight back. Let's not underestimate the power of protests because they don't give us results instantly.
Also, we shouldn't have to join the police force for cops to be decent human beings. The police force isn't going to completely change solely because of new hires. It is layers and layers of problematic behaviors, inappropriate policies and training, and corrupted leadership that have created one of the most dangerous and abusive workforces that the country unfortunately has to rely on.
Definitely agree on the vote and run. Everyone should vote for. Every. Single. Election.
Most of the protesting is outside of the community in many major cities. The local ones are fine. What are you protesting in NJ?
Abolish that shit.
Only one person can win, what does everyone else who is dissatisfied do at that point?
That’s democracy. There’s not a better system yet.
Lol that's not even how you get hired as a cop. They aren't voted on. But sure there's better systems. Like democracies where protest is allowed. You are saying we are better off not allowing protests in our democracy?
You said only one person can win? Wtf are you talking about.
Where did I say not to protest I said what good is protesting another cities in another state with different laws and rules going to do? NJ requires cops to have 4 year education and has other things most other states don’t have.
That's not what you said,. But ok
Vote and run… aka politics.. and you can run.. and you can vote and change how shit is handled. But protesting just makes good headlines for the left and right to push their narratives and then not much happens unless you got the right people in..
NJ saw the need to change going back to Christi Todd Whitman. That’s when police changes started. It’s also why our issues are much more muted against the national stage.
Sign up? What is it an enlistment or a job?
