I wouldn't trust the Mexican military to really do anything to drug cartels, not in any substantial way. From my understanding all the MPs of all the branches got rolled into the National Guard and act as a national police force/Federal police force, and they've been accused of quite a bit of human rights violations. Migrant abuse, forced disappearances, arresting people for just any old reason, extortion and having ties to organized crime. The former defense minister of Mexico, a 4 star Army general, was also arrested in the US for drug trafficking, and that was after the former head of the federal police force was arrested for the same thing. They sound like a state sanctioned drug cartel themselves at this point

Now the Mexican Marines, I can get behind those guys. As far as I know they're far more reputable and on the up and up

Let's hope that those attempting to bring him to any kind of real justice have a better plan than the last time.

Let's also hope that innocent civilians aren't hurt or killed in the ensuing violence.

A few months ago, I was supposed to go to Baja beach fest in Baja but had to cancel last second because the cartels were terrorizing. The area. It’s horrific that this is becoming a common thing.

CNN reporting 29 people died during the arrest process. 8 officials, and the rest cartel members.

AP reporting that the cartel was able to “force down” two military aircraft. They then began shooting up the airport, “fixed wing” aircraft, and 1 civilian plane in an attempt to prevent this guy from being flown out of the city.

Multiple sources reporting this is a “gift” to Biden, days ahead of his Mexico City visit. This allegedly demonstrates that the President of Mexico is “in control” of Mexico.

You redditors need to get your high ass of the horse. TikTok contains hundreds of videos that have nothing to do with teenagers or dancing.

Many videos on science, computers, etc. and that also includes videos of people who witness events firsthand.

I swear you people need to get out of your basement more.

The Cartels would be signing their own death warrant. In the early 90's(?) a Cartel tortured to death a DEA agent, they were wiped out not only by US law enforcement but other Cartels as they knew what NOT to do. And were more than willing to show they had nothing to do with the murder.

Now imagine if they even took a shot at say Biden, or any US Military force.

The Mexican army should go house to house. Cartels, enablers and collaborators. No quarter and no mercy until this shit is done.

https://apnews.com/article/politics-united-states-government-mexico-drug-crimes-city-d74ba460138c067ca538c862e3f0a5b0

From the article: Samuel González, who founded Mexico’s special prosecutor’s office for organized crime in the 1990s, said Guzmán’s capture was a “gift” ahead of Biden’s visit. The Mexican government “is working to have a calm visit,” he said.

Edit: and another one https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/01/06/americas/el-chapo-son-arrest-mexico-prison-intl/index.html

Capturing Guzmán could be a way for López Obrador to show the US that he is "in control of the armed forces and Mexico's security situation," Gladys McCormick, a associate professor at Syracuse University who focuses on Mexico-US relations, told CNN in an email.

Edit: a 3rd source https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/05/world/americas/el-chapo-son-ovidio-guzman-mexico.html

It also provided the government a public relations win days before Mr. López Obrador is set to host President Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada at a North American Leaders Summit in Mexico City.

Here’s a 4th source. It doesn’t spell it out as bluntly. This article probably requires some critical reading skills. It talks about the USA’s interest in capturing him. Talks about the previous release. Then goes on to talk about how the President of Mexico wont look like he’s “weak” on the cartels to other “governments”. Does not mention Biden by name as part of the other “government”. Does state that this event is occurring days before the summit that Biden will attend.

I’m unsure why you would be having trouble finding this. I Googled “El Chapo son” and several pages of articles came up.

I suspect a fair amount of that happens. You can also ask whether US-style long trials with a zillion ways for rich defendants to get off are really “due” for a country riddled with organized crime.

Only a corrupt government would allow the cartels to be the government. I go back to the days when the Gulfos and the Mexican government were the only two cartels.
