It’s not the Uber driver who is at fault. But Audi who rear ended him and fled the scene.

You're kidding, right?

I’m not kidding. Some people get away with no punishment

Yeah, that's what I meant. This person will probably not even lose their license.

This gotta be a joke . Maybe if he would stayed on scene , but fleeing the scene is what makes it an actual felony instead of just a license suspension

toastedclown t1_j2u4f2x wrote

That's assuming they have valid plates and can be tracked down.

iv2892 t1_j2u4sz8 wrote

That’s an entire different story, but they better track it down for fucks sakes

7

toastedclown t1_j2u5cnl wrote

That would involve trying to track it down.

In any event, it's entirely the same story, which is that the NYPD has virtually zero interest in investigating these types of crimes.

I can also guarantee you that nobody is going to do any time at all for this.

Say her name! Amy DeGise. Daughter of Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.

She's still out there on the roads. Daddy protected her.

Fleeing the scene is somehow worse than injuring 22 people?

iv2892 t1_j2w3zo4 wrote

No, but fleeing the scene makes you guilty by default. Instead of claiming that you just had an accident

An-Angel_Sent-By-God t1_j2vh305 wrote

Even if they get the plates, find the car, and confront the owner, the owner can just say that they weren't the person driving at the time. And there's the end of the investigation.

iv2892 t1_j2w3wwx wrote

I don’t think you can get away that easily

Suspect will do time for this case but chances are the suspect is somebody with 10+ arrest and probably should not have been out in the streets to begin with.

people don't do time for a hit and run in this city

I know very few hit and runs get investigated and as far as I know the issue is more on the investigative (or the lack there-off) side. But now that criticism is morphing into “even those arrested” don’t do anytime. Which yeah, am sure they are cases where the person possibly got of with just probation. Pretty sure you have cases in mind for you to believe that nobody does time for hit and runs, but am going to go out on a limb and say whatever case you have in mind varies greatly to an incident involving 20+ people injured.

Granted most of the cases I linked involve fatalities. But not much precedent in NYC in regards to hit and runs in which 20+ people are injured. I can only think of two. That guy who rammed people in Times Square and was found to be unfit for court and is now confined to a nuthouse. And the U-haul truck incident, which was a terror attack.

Queens DA let a lady walk last year, sure seemed like she road raged and killed a dude on a scooter while hitting a sidewalk shed full of people eating dinner.
