It’s unreal that they dug this out and just left it. It’s been what, a week now? This whole neighborhood between 30th, girard, poplar, etc is a fucking nightmare right now

This year, they did this every where. From south Philly to literally the center of center city, they dug shit up and left it there for like a month before finishing. Truly a terrible way of doing things. The Streets dept needs a very serious criminal investigation into its actions

This is becoming a thing. Penn Dot is being sued for leaving a street dug up and it killed a motorcyclist despite many complaints and accidents already. I live outside of Philly and they leave roadwork incomplete for months at a time, and UGI digs up the street over and over again whenever they would like instead of doing any real repairs. They put up signs for no parking the whole week and they may or may not even appear. It’s way out of control and there is no care for the human beings interacting with their projects.

This is America. Getting things done as cheaply and shittily as possible.

No other major city in the US does this like this.

There have been more things getting done lately at least though. Growing pains I guess.

Thirty years ago, I spent a month in France as a summer exchange student. While I was there, they repaved the road in front of the house where I was staying. Crew and machines proceeded down the road at roughly a slow walk, paving as they went. An hour or so later, they came back the other way and did that lane. People went around them as they worked -- without even closing the road.

Never seen anything like it over here.

We have had a sinkhole growing through our sidewalk for the last month or so. We reported it when it was just a few bricks sinking down and now it stretches 5 houses. We’ve put in 3 tickets but due to other work on our road (resurfacing and gas line work) all the tickets keep getting marked as resolved, when all the road work equipment is making the hole worse!

It’s crazy the incompetence surrounding their own web ticket system, I can’t imagine how day to day management is.

Funny enough they did this on my block as well, dug a big patch out and left it for a day. Repaired the hole the next day, but never actually fixed or did any work.

I was going to complain to 311 about a ditch that some workers keep digging up and leaving uncovered on 47th for most of the past year. Didn't realize how big and widespread the problem actually is

Agreed. My car is fucked from these roads, I've been knocked off my bike because they left a 1ft deep hole across the entire road and bike lane, and it was deeper than it looked. On top of this, I ride in the bike lanes and there's randomly piles of cement almost 2x-3x higher than a speed bump across the bike lanes from times that they had to dig into the ground, and decided to just put a pile of cement on it to "fix" it. they don't even flatten it

Ridge ave in east falls was worse than this in the spring. then the paved it (poorly) to cover the holes, then repaved it in full a month later
