Yeah around Woodland you have ones in the 2 and 3 million range pretty frequently.

A.) Not Pittsburgh

B.) Fox Chapel has old mining houses. Seriously, FC thinks it's richer than it is because it has some old money areas. It's maybe the 3rd or 4th richest township in the county.

DruTangClan t1_jedhs1p wrote

Beechwood is pretty insanely wealthy if the houses (this one not withstanding) are anything to go by, but idk if it would be the richest. There’s probably parts of Sewickly and Fox Chapel that are wealthier if you consider them the city still

12

Sarcastiballecter t1_jee866s wrote

Fox Chapel and Sewickly are SUBURBS amiright?

32

DruTangClan t1_jefoqa5 wrote

Yes but when people refer to “pittsburgh” they often are not specifically talking about city limits pittsburgh. For example I know people from Sewickly that would still say “im from pittsburgh” if someone asked them.

3

Sarcastiballecter t1_jefq1f3 wrote

Only really excusable when talking to people unfamiliar with the area and not so much on a PITTSBURGH sub.

4

100% suburbs.

Richest neighborhood in Pittsburgh is now downtown. But if we're talking single family low rise neighborhoods, it remains Shadyside and has been that way since the 1930s. Millionaire row down near Chateau and Manchester had the title but it's been reliably Shadyside for almost a century.

Selcier t1_jecy1bt wrote

The only thing McMansion-ish about it is the front facing two car garage and giant double wide driveway in one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the city.

Love tjr color though. With all this subreddit's talk about how grey it is here, we could use some fun house colors.

37

Horror_Financial t1_jeczsmn wrote

True the wide driveways deserve scorn. I MUCH prefer the 1.5 lane driveways and garage in the McSplitEntries of the 80s. Or the McCapeCods of the 60s and thier 'barely fit a honda fits'. (my preffered half of stanton heights is entirely this for example) Plus instead of sorta similar they are all exactly the same, which IMO shows much better solidarity.

9

MrSchenleyMD t1_jee4hvq wrote

As a Stanton Heights resident who drives a Honda Fit, your comment is painfully accurate.

and its funny knowing half this reddit lives within 2m away and would have to use gps to get to your house. they still have the farm up there? that used to blow clients away when i still had them lol

Lots of people on that sub (I've been there for a few years now) don't fully understand what makes a house a McMansion. That's why the "just ugly" tag exists there. t's not necessarily an agenda, they're just ignorant. Anyhow, actual McMansions are a symptom of many things, including land use policy.

I don’t think the house is finished. The pink might be a treatment to protect the concrete from water damage

6

Tzanchan08 t1_jefhbcc wrote

I seriously hope this is true. But I doubt it. It was unfinished for a while when the rest of the exterior had been painted. Then they finished it a lighter grey than the rest of the house. Then they painted over that with this pink. I originally thought they were going to put some stonework on the bump out and were waiting for materials… but that hasn’t happened.
