What is the most cost effective way to get to Logan airport? I did a 1 week trip recently and just left my car in the economy parking for $25 a day. I'm planning a 2 week vacation for the summer so that would of course double the price. When I lived in NH we had the Boston Express shuttle bus where you could park your car for free in NH and pay around $30 roundtrip for the bus. Is there anything similar in RI? Or would I have to pay for parking in addition to the bus? I considered the commuter rail as well but that seems like it could take longer and require paying for the train to south station, then logan, in addition to parking which could end up being the same cost as just parking at Logan since we'd be buying tickets for 2.

Your first best bet is to fly out of Providence and avoid that nightmare altogether. But since you didn’t do that, option two is taking the MBTA train to south station and hopping on the silver line.

Thanks! I failed to mention that I'll be flying international so flights out of Providence are harder to come by

That’s fair. PVD was becoming rather international before COVID, hopefully that picks back up again. Norwegian Air was an absolute dream.

Norwegian Air has re-emerged as Norse. It’s mostly flying out of major airports (Logan, JFK, etc) vs the smaller big city alternatives like Norwegian did. They are pretty quickly expanding (only flight out of BOS is to London) so not sure what the strategy will be.

Thank you, super helpful. It will take longer than driving but definitely worth the savings

You may even be able to take a RIPTA bus to the train station and leave your car at home. Some bus routes serve the station directly, others drop you at Kennedy Plaza but you can transfer to the R Line or walk.

If you get off the Amtrak or MBTA at back bay, there’s a free shuttle to Logan that leaves from in front of the station!

Although I prefer the MBTA, Uber and Lyft are also an option too and still cheeper for a lengthy trip. Usually 70-90 from providence to Logan and 120-150 back. If you have a coupon or like the idea of convenience it may be worth it. Iv also parked at hotels around Logan before. A lot of them offer you to pay to park and take the shuttle, with a valet and everything.

The peter pan bus isn’t bad. Drops off right at the airport.

I've rented a car in Providence and dropped it off at Logan for like 45 dollars. Best way to get there at odd times of the day and not having to bother someone and ask for a ride.

I would look into the Logan express. They’ve got various locations you can drive to (or get dropped off) and then you take a shuttle to Logan. Prices are reasonable if I’m remembering correctly

seconding this! it’s $20 for the shuttle round trip and i think the parking is $7 a day (last time i went to braintree location). they pick up at least once an hour and will drop you right at your terminal

I noticed the other day there’s an express bus at the Mansfield train stop. Could hop on the train and plan around that schedule.

An Uber is about $75 - $100 each way. Not exactly economical, but not super expensive either.

Better than $25/day. I find scheduling Uber or Lyft is about $80. Coming back has been painful the last couple times as you can’t necessarily schedule. Last time was a $150 Uber!

Last time I took the free Silver Line to South Station then took an Uber from there. It’s few miles closer to Providence, plus you avoid paying the Uber airport pickup fees and tunnel tolls.

Got it. When I use Logan it’s usually for longer trips - so I have next to no patience when I get back. But this is a good alternative!

Haha same here! I had been traveling for like 15 hours and missed the commuter rail at South Station by a few minutes. I didn’t feel like waiting the two plus hours the next one. So I spent $75 on the Uber and was home within an hour.

Depending on when you're going, it can be a lot cheaper to park than $25, but you want to book sooner rather than later. You don't want to park at a Logan lot, it's cheaper to go to Revere or something a couple miles away, and take a shuttle. Most longterm lots are just hotel parking lots.

Logan Express from Braintree is the cheapest, but not by much. I think it’s $7/day plus $21 each way on the bus. The bus takes a long time, so keep that in mind.

For me it depends on the time of day I’m leaving and how much luggage and time I have. Given the cost of parking that you mentioned, taking an Uber or Lyft isn’t too bad. If you have the time and don’t have a ton of luggage, take the Amtrak or Commuter to South Station then switch to the T to take the Silver Line to Logan.

You could also take Amtrak or commuter rail to Back Bay and take the Logan Express bus from there— $3 to airport, free from airport.
