Happy birthday and go rams!!
happy birthday! we both have the same birthdays!
Happy birthday to you also!
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday!
Boss/CEO has been on vacation all week, therefore I’ve been on vacation all week. This weekend will consist of massive Sunday scaries.
WE GET OUR NEW KITTY TODAY
Congrats!
Nothing too exciting this weekend. Going to be planting a bunch of seeds, getting the outdoor rows cleaned up and ready to plant, and fixing/adding some irrigation lines.
Sunday afternoon ill be yelling into the void while I try to put frost cloth on all my fruit trees again. These back and forth temp swings are brutal.
> Sunday afternoon ill be yelling into the void while I try to put frost cloth on all my fruit trees again. These back and forth temp swings are brutal.
Yeah this dance is getting tiring.
Whatcha growin?
My Korean pickling radish and savoyed spinach popped up in yesterday’s warm temps.
I lost a couple broccoli babies the other night because I was too lazy to cover them so I’ll set out replacements today.
We’d love to see your garden progress on r/VAGardening. Come share your success and failures with us so we can all learn.
I have a few flats already going of onion, cabbages, kale, romaine and bibb lettuce, yod fah Chinese broccoli, bok choi, cilantro, and parsley.
Hopefully I'll get a second round of lettuces done, and then starting all the summer crops. Tomatoes, peppers, et .
Hoping to get some rows of spinach, beets, radishes, and turnips going in the greenhouse but well see how much time I actually end up having.
I definitely follow that sub, I should be more active in it as it warms up and I can move more of the fun stuff back outside.
What seeds are you planting? I’m late getting seeds started inside and you have me wondering if it’s time to direct sow
I'm going to enjoy green things today.
Heading to O’tooles to celebrate St. Patrick’s day!
Starting off today with my adhd testing and closing the restaurant tonight... followed by a double tomorrow open to close and then Sunday homework all day🫠 I am so tired
Good luck! I went and got tested for adhd as an adult as well, best decision I made so far
When my psychiatrist mentioned I had been suspected for it as a teen I was shocked, but it would explain the mental lists I make to try and stay on track and all the other issues. He's hoping it helps me understand my anxiety better as well and he recommended I get tested. Hopefully I'll get some answers
Can I ask where you ended up going and what the wait was like? Maybe the price range as well? I’ve been looking to get tested and called many many places last year with very little success (either all booked, or prohibitively expensive). Feel free to DM!
Go tour some houses and hope I can leave the purgatory of home buying soon.
Anyone got thoughts on Fulton Hill? I don't know much about the neighborhood except that it's close to Churchill.
I'm looking for a neighborhood with trees, where I can have easy access to a coffee shop and good dog walking streets. And semi close to the airport and under 400k. Any recs?
Good luck! There isn't a lot on the market right now, but a LOT more should be hitting the market later this month. Definitely check out neighborhoods, even if there aren't homes for sale yet, that way if something does come up, you'll be more confident about the area, and you'll be ready to move quickly if you like the house.
Check out the 'sold' homes from the past 12 months to find areas in your price range that may not have listings available currently.
I have to keep reminding myself it's only March and we just got into spring. I've only been looking for a week, I'm just impatient 🤣
Yeah, we're at the point in the market where buyers have cabin fever, so the first warm weather they are ready to run out and see houses, but the sellers aren't ready. Then sellers will put their homes on the market, but it'll be bad weather and slow open houses. :)
I’m in Highland Springs and it has all those things except for a coffee shop. People clown the neighborhood but I’ve been here 14 years and we love it.
> I'm looking for a neighborhood with trees, where I can have easy access to a coffee shop and good dog walking streets. And semi close to the airport and under 400k. Any recs?
Have you considered the Stadium neighborhood? Easy to pop onto 195 to get to the airport.
Saw this on Zillow, for example: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/706-S-Nansemond-St-Richmond-VA-23221/12552117_zpid/
Lived on the other block of nansemond for awhile with a friend, can confirm great area
Byrd park- They have options in the 300's pop up every few weeks and the owners of NYD are opening a little cafe there in 2024, plus all of carytown.
/u/lunar_unit is one of our resident Fulton Hills experts.
Fulton's OK. I've been up here since about 2005. Some parts are run down compared to others, but all are generally safe. Development of empty lots, general gentrification and rising costs is definitely affecting the neighborhood.
Celebratory gunfire is a heavy thing here. New Year's Eve really pops off. We also have a significant train yard nearby that has train sounds at all hours of the day and night (usually not super loud, just a reminder that they're there.) Airport being close is nice for trips, but the planes do fly fairly low over Fulton at times.
Blue Atlas is a nice restaurant with a great view and a small market (check it out even if you don't move up here.) They're probably the closest thing we have to a coffee shop, though there are plenty of convenience stores and a few decent fast food places like Ms. Girlee's. Also, Triple Crossing, Stone Brewery, Gillies Creek Park, Rocketts and the Cap Trail are all minutes away.
You should also look at nearby Montrose Heights (right across Government Rd.) , which is similar, but maybe generally quieter, than Fulton.
Thanks for letting me know about the trains and gunfire!
Montrose also straddles the city county line, and county bills and taxes are cheaper. Houses aren't as old, or as large, so staying under 400K and not having to pour money into massive renovations is definitely possible in Montrose.
Hmm ok this is good to know. My main thing about neighborhood is that I really do want some nice aesthetics and to be able to walk to a park. Montrose is new to me but I don't mind looking around neighborhoods to see my options.
Looking around Fulton and I'm a bit surprised to see for sale homes at 370k 🫠🫠 I expected that for Churchill.
Tell me about it. It's nuts. One of the two on the 1500 block of Carlisle is under contract already at that price (which kinda blew my mind), which maybe makes sense because it's all new construction, but the one next to it was renovated and I figured it would start much lower than the new one.
The houses on the western side of Fulton (divided by Williamsburg Rd) tend to go for more than the eastern side, generally speaking.
Fulton was one of the last pockets of sorta cheap houses in north-of-the-river Richmond and it's been discovered by homebuyers and investors (landlords) who snap things up for crazy money.
*Church Hill. The hill with St. John's Church. Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine.
Just an FYI for the March Madness crowd, Wood & Iron is not doing happy hour today (didn’t do it yesterday either) most likely due to the tournament. Kinda dumb but it is what it is…
i can't imagine what a nightmare that place must be right now. it's horribly crowded on a good day.
So many things to choose from! The Weekend Event Thread is hopping! I've been meaning to check out the Classical Incarnations series at G5, maybe this will finally be the weekend I do it.
Diablo 4 Early Access Beta! Excite!
What character class are you gonna try first? I'm planning on Necromancer for the full playthrough, so I might choose Sorceress for the beta.
I have a soft spot for Rogues. I'll probably try the Sorceress at some point this weekend when my husband and his friend plays. Playing a squishy Sorceress by myself just seems like a recipe for frustration.
Nice, is it consoles too? I only have work laptops. I played the hell out of Diablo 2 back in the day. I think I skipped the third one. I loved the necromancer and the Skelton army
Not only is it console too, but it's supposed to launch with cross play. If the husband's computer is unable to play it, that's going to be our work around, me on my laptop and him on the Xbox. If my laptop doesn't cut it, I guess that means we'll finally be getting that ps5. I want to play Stray anyway.
Nice, I might tell the wife it's only on PS5 so I have to upgrade the 10 year old PS4.
That wont work, but I can dream
Tonight I’m binging the ever-loving shit out of The Glory. I’m on episode 9.
Before you take the Slate News Quiz, comment what you think will definitely be asked and a long shot.
Definitely: SVB
Long shot: Seaweed
Definitely: Something about the Oscars
Long shot: France retirement age kerfuffle
Update: 10/12, 446 (not bad!)
You guessed both!
Definitely: Mitch McConnell in the hospital.
Long shot: Kamala Harris's interview with Colbert.
Update: 6/12. Sigh.
I thought Sargassum seaweed as well, but nope. 493, 11/12, i took too long and I don't know enough about college basketball.
Definitely: the banking crisis.
Longshot: March Madness
Edit: Hit 'em both! 10/12, 446. Suck it Staff Writer Molly Olmstead!
Definitely: Banks
Long shot: Willow Project approval
Definitely basketball
Possibly: the drone crash? might be too recent.

Getting my house back in order after a major construction project. And in case you think those sewer line insurance things you get are annoying - get it, you will massively regret it if you don’t. Trust me
Also can recommend shelling out for a sewer line inspection when buying a house. Saved us $$$$$ when we found out about the problem before closing.
I really wanted to love Breeze, but I will not be booking with them again. Wildly unreliable, always delayed, no WiFi on flights, just a pretty miserable experience 3 months in and what should have been 6 flights on the RIC-SFO route. What a bummer.
how many flights did you actually take? i have one SFO-RIC experience and it was thankfully on time. i have noticed it is far more likely for them to be delayed though.
I was scheduled for 6, one cancelled, 2 delayed by 2+ hours, and three relatively on time. My flight on Monday from RIC-SFO was actually on time, but then our bags took an hour and ten minutes to make it to baggage claim because there was no one who could do it. The last flight home was delayed, and and they wouldn’t let me check my bag until 1.5 hours before the NEW boarding time. I had already arrived at the airport prior to the delay, so had to sit there at the check in/baggage counter for a couple hours to wait to check the bag and get through security (mind you, limited seating, no food, and check in/bag drop areas aren’t meant for people to stand there for hours). Unbelievably frustrating.
ALSO HOW DO THEY NOT HAVE WIFI? that’s really the biggest deal killer of all for a business traveler.
Ok. Rant over from a United seat I was very thankful to snag so I could get home today.
I was fired from my job because they lied about it being a full-time position. They said they tried posting the job as part-time but couldn't find good candidates, so they decided to pull a bait and switch and lie that it was full-time. And they said it to me like they did absolutely nothing wrong. The worst part it was the State government, and they have a one year probation period, so they had the right to fire me for any reason since I was still on probation.
I honestly don't think I will be able to recover from this. I have already started skipping my medication so that it will last longer.
Did you get a job offer letter outlining the position, salary, start date, etc? So confused how this is possible.
Yep, everything was written up to be full-time, but in state government, you have to go through a whole year of probation where they can fire you for literally anything. They stated I was fired because I was too nice to individuals, and creating an equitable creative process took too much decision-making power away from leadership. It's 100% trumped-up charges so that they could get HR on their side. Even then, the Head of HR apologized and said I did nothing wrong in her eyes as she walked me out of the building. And this was after I helped them run the best Convention they have ever put on and helped raise the most money they ever raised for the state charity program by me creating an extremely well-received gameshow for the fundraiser event. I met and exceeded every expectation and was still fired.
I didn't know until after I was fired that the leadership has been having issues with work processes for a long time with the various programs and teams. My trying to create a creative process that shared power and leaned on multiple perspectives was seen as a threat to their control.
Apply for Medicaid and you can get your meds for free. I am on it after being laid off in Feb. My inhalers and breo are free and without coverage the breo is $1100 a month. You usually get your cards within 10 days.
Do I have to be with the job for a certain period to be able to apply? are there any limitations? I will absolutely look into this! Thank you.
No just unemployed. Also unemployment would go back to the last qualifying employer and not VA Gov so file for unemployment. Did a 3 month stint in 2020 and collected from the prior employer of 6 years. It is the income during qualifying quarters.
Thank you a million times!!!! I greatly appreciate you!
If you can go out to the Warsaw VEC office and see Cheryl. 487 Main St. Warsaw. The online filing is a pain and makes errors. It is 30 mins from where I live. Mon Wed and Thurs 8:30 -. 4:00 with very few people there to wait behind.
Another use it or lose it day off. I have planned to ride the motorbike, but been up with a pup with unhappy stomach. As usual planned WAY to much to do. Went to Bingo Beer last night. All the pinballs worked!
Wife and I are traveling up to Pittsburgh to catch the John Mayer Solo show
Suspiciously good day so far. Got an early Friday and the owner of my company randomly gave me an unasked for 10% raise this morning. Very much suspect I'll get hit by a bus or struck by lightning before the day is over lol

Hello kitty food truck will be in town at some point tomorrow. Also drinks and games at the local barcade(hoping they've fixed the games...)
> the local barcade(hoping they've fixed the games...)
Narrator: They haven't.
Have you been to Draftcade? (I have not, but I hear better things.)
Thanks for the heads up 😂 haven't heard of it but I may try! I did try the new one next to the Funny Bone in short pump. If it wasn't in short pump I'd go there often! $20 for unlimited gaming.
ETA: after googling it seems I was thinking about the exact thing you said. Draftcade is pretty great.
Lol, that's Draftcade. :)
😅😅 I haven't gotten out of bed yet. I'm allowed a derp moment on a Fridaily.
took the day off to handle some chorin then VCU hoops.
I'm signed up for the Tour de Pocahontas XXC race tomorrow. Gonna be pissed if it rains and they end up moving it to gravel
Took a personal day as I have been sleeping extra shitty lately. Its been a week.
Poor sleep is the worst and it affects everything and everyone around you. You have my sympathy.
Thank you.
I am seeing a neurologist FINALLY! It only took a fucking YEAR!
They think that it could be several things, as somone here posted the last time I complained about lack of sleep PLMD may be the cause. I kick and thrash and vocalize violently at night. No arm movement, just legs, and its bad. Really bad. Normally I am not consious or even aware that its happening. Last night I was semi consious and it was happening for hours and it was scary as fuck to be perfectly honest.
Sleep study has been ordered, we will take it from there.
At least the doc ruled out ALS. My wife's mom had that, for about 6 months. We all know where that shit end. I couldnt bare to put her through something like that. This is bad enough, it affects both our sleep, moods, cognition. I am glad that she is at a convention out of town so she will get some shut eye while Im swimming in bed at night.
I look forward to a nights sleep, it will be a thing of beauty.
Congratulations on getting in to see your neurologist! It only took me six months to see mine to confirm I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and that nothing can be done for it. Yay me. He also referred me to a rheumatologist that I can't see until November. What in the heck is up with these long lead times to see a doctor?
We are going to see what happens tomorrow based off what happens tonight. I have. A friend who really wants to go out for St. Patrick’s so I’m going with him. Should be interesting. Ideally I’d like to get some fishing in this weekend.
Excited to finally sleep in tomorrow, have lunch with an old friend tomorrow and check out Furbish thrift.
Just got my last passing grade for the CPA exam so this weekend will probably be biking, playing Destiny 2, and thinking about what's next.
Congrats on passing!
Thanks chief 🫡
Spent the last 3 days packing & cleaning and saying goodbye to all my RVA friends repeatedly. Driving north all day tomorrow, my lifestyle of living free or dying officially starts Sunday. New job starts Monday. I'm so exhausted.
Big thanks to all those who bought or took some of my items that I don't need and didn't want to move. To all those who said they wanted stuff but didn't put their money where their mouth is: you're dead to me.
In SC to enjoy a few days at the beach and celebrate my nieces 21st. Excited and nervous to “party” with college kids - wish me luck 😂
I almost died spring break at Myrtle Beach back in the day. 311 show at the house of blues while living on a mixture of raw oysters, drugs, and jack Daniels...it was awesome to be young, dumb, and full of....foolishness
Also in SC but heading back to RVA this afternoon. Good luck!
Started off the day cleaning and paying a couple bills. Feeling adult AF....and broke. Oh well.
I'm super stoked for this Rosie's trip on Sunday. Last time I went I only won $30 but I've got really high hopes this time! If I win more than $500 I'm buying this: https://tovfurniture.com/product/orr-the-six-forest-green-glass-pendant/
I caught COVID19 last month and it trashed my sleep schedule. However my cat still wants breakfast at 8 am on the dot and it’s oh so annoying.
I’m working. I’m supposed to be off next weekend for GalaxyCon so I need to plan ahead for time off.
ugh 8am, you're spoiled. Try 4am
Leaving town as I type for the Highland County Maple Festival.
Have fun! That's where we were when the world shut down, it was surreal.
Building out some garden beds, hopefully!
Chorin mostly, hopefully along with some down time for video games. Hoping I get some feedback about a promotion I just asked for to counter the job offer I got at another company. Potential new company has the worst PTO I've seen since the aughts, so actually hoping my current company steps up.
Prepped everything today for the anticipated cold for the next 3 days. Probably will work on the raised beds as the coconut shaving should be here today. Get those prepped for the warmer weather Wednesday. Have several veggies ready to go in. Planning a surprise of nasturtiums for my mum. She had them at her house in Indiana before moving here and has looked for them for the last 3.5 years. Got some seeds started in egg crates to plant out in front by her windows.
Prepping for a job interview on Monday. Radio silence from 2 x panel interview company. No good news from VEC. Such is the pain of job hunting.
This is the last day of my current temp contract and I have another one lined up. As always the hours are unclear (I get told one schedule and it turns out not to be that schedule.)
Any potential owners for a FIV positive elderly male cat? I picked him off the street and he’s about 8-10 years old based on the vet. He’s up to date on his vaccines, he just needs a forever home. He’s extremely mellow, peaceful, and loves attention. His only dislike is being picked up as he’s a bush cat and is afraid of heights.
Just now joined. Have a few things in my greenhouse and beds ready to be filled.
I will have extras so I will be trading for herbs since I have the death touch for those.
Going to be doing some volunteer work and prom shopping
its my birthday!
Happy birthday!!!
Working late tonight, and car shopping tomorrow. Hoping to look at a used 2011 Honda Fit for what seems like a reasonable price - I wonder if there's something wrong with it. Anyone have experience with lemonsquad or pomcar?
Got my tickets to My Brother, My Brother and Me, which will be at the Carpenter Center in June!

Happy Birthday to me. Lunch with parents and son today, then some VCU basketball, and then dinner with the family tomorrow night at Brenner Pass.
