Was Kevin James really the "King of Queens" , did "Everybody" really love Raymond?, On "Just Shoot Me" did they go around killing people? TV titles are not literal in their meaning. Abed couldn't see past the title of boss literally meaning the one who writes the checks. I dare anyone to actually watch all of Whose the Boss and come to the conclusion that Angela was other than the fact she wrote his paycheck. To paraphrase Rick "Your downvotes mean nothing to me - I've seen what makes you cheer."

haljordan8976 t1_iy9z109 wrote

Abed was wrong and the teacher was right. The title of the show wasn't meant to be literal but Abed couldn't see that. The title was meant to mean boss as in whose in charge and not just who writes the checks. Angela was far from the "Boss" in her life. Tony and Angela were the true bosses of her life. I've watched the show all the way through and she was manipulated by Mona and led on was constantly waiting for Tony to make the first move.

DangerousBlueberry1 t1_iyah3ha wrote

Abed is never wrong, how dare you.

haljordan8976 t1_iyewpc5 wrote

Abed was wrong plenty of times. Wrong about chicken fingers, wrong about ruining Hickey's work, wrong about putting trackers in the study group, wrong about Luka, wrong in the email he wrote about Troy in Pillows and Blankets. Watch Who's the Boss and then come back to make a case. I've seen every episode of both shows multiple times, how about you?

1

slymm t1_iycxmwz wrote

You have to take the time into context here. In the 80s the idea of a woman being a boss and a man being under her, especially in a domestic job, was unusual.

2

haljordan8976 t1_iyeugjy wrote

I'm the same age as Harmon and I know exactly how the dynamic was. With relatives in the south and seeing the men outside drinking and the women in the kitchen. The fact is still that the title of the show was supposed not supposed to be literal.

At this point, is there an 80s sitcom that is not up for a reboot. If Michael J Fox didn't have Parkinson's, I bet we would have had a Family Ties reboot already.

SeaworthinessLeft88 t1_iya23ne wrote

I wouldn’t put it past a network to reboot it as “The Huxtables” with Malcolm-Jamal Warner. They could bring the major characters back with the exception of Bill, give Theo a family, and establish that Cliff died from an untimely overdose of Rohypinol years prior.

32

grandmasterfunk t1_iybikp1 wrote

I don't think they should do a reboot, but it is such a shame that Cosby's crimes have made that show so uncomfortable to watch. It was actually a great show

7

Earguy t1_iyebtrm wrote

Oh that scene where Cliff's special home made BBQ sauce puts people in the mood for love... and he scrambles to keep it from the little kids. In context now, it's really disturbing

4

slymm t1_iycxwbw wrote

I mean, nobody even airs/streams the original now. No way they'd make a reboot.

(Though I was on vacation this summer in the middle of nowhere and some local affiliate was airing it)

1

phluidity t1_iydtfbr wrote

Cosby still probably owns enough of the rights that no matter how it happened, he'd make money off of any reboot. So f' him.

1

travio t1_iya7icf wrote

They could do it as a black dramedy. Call it The Huxtables and work Bill Cosby's real life issues into the show. Dr. Cliff Huxtable is finally brought to justice for all the sex crimes that he committed on his patients over the years and the rest of the Huxtables have to put the pieces of their family together.

Not sure how true this is, but I heard that they originally wanted to end Family Ties with the whole family dying in a plane crash so there could be no reunion or reboot. I don't remember where I read this, but it stuck with me.

5

Kalse1229 t1_iybjwy8 wrote

That might actually be pretty interesting. The idea of the free-spirited hippie parents and the conservative son was one thing in the Reagan administration of the 80s, but it'd be interesting to see how the parents and Alex (as well as the other siblings) respond to modern-day conservatism, specifically the Trump administration. One of the few shows where I think that kind of angle actually makes sense.

No, because we never figured out who IS the boss.

Is it Angela because she agreed to hire Tony, pay his salary, board him and his daughter, had the power to fire and evict him at any point … you know what, never mind. Angela’s very clearly the boss. Question answered. Now let’s move on to Growing Pains.

Danny's acting again - loved him in the Lifetime Christmas movie he was just in - and he hinted that he might be returning so I'm hopeful he and Judith will be back, even if it's just recurring.

Feeling good about Tony/Angela because it'd be weird for him to live in the house otherwise since it's hers.

RogueViator t1_iy9v5zg wrote

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't Tony and Angela get married? If so, not having Judith Light would be a bit of a hole unless they kill off the character.

instead of rebooting one series at a time, why not just combine the salvageable pieces from each series and turn them into crossovers. Whichever actors are still in good shape can reprise their roles and reveal that they now know each other. This way they can pull in wider audiences (fans of each show). Also, this means we will take less time for each show to have its reboot so we can get past this era.
