I enjoyed it. Hearing Rok-Tahk speak (via the universal translator) for the first time was a small delight.

Every character showed development, the story progressed nicely, and the future seems intriguing. Well done.

I like it a lot and can't wait for more! I rank it behind Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds but it is really good. I feel spoiled right now with so many ongoing Trek shows.

The Prodigy episode involving time dilation on a large ship was an amazing episode of Trek, period.

The episode that was a tribute to The Original Series was unbelievably hilarious, I was dying!

In general I am loving Kate Mulgrew in dual roles as Janeway, she's wonderful.

However, sometimes it is too much of a kids' show trying to be an adult show and it does bother me. I want them to focus on "monster of the week" episodes and forget about their larger plot. The entire overarching plot is a simple "lack of communication" trope. It's terribly written and only children would not see through it. It's just not believable at all. They are a handful of ragtag children, can we please not make this a "fate of Starfleet" situation? It doesn't fit.

It's unironically the best Star Trek show running right now.

That's a tight race with Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds

The first episode was hard to follow, slow moving, left too many things only obliquely hinted at instead of setting them up a bit more accessibly. It improved pretty quickly and has gotten pretty darn good. I rank it behind Strange New Worlds but ahead of Lower Decks.

I found it to be really enjoyable. It's definitely better than Discovery. I haven't seen Picard or SNW yet so I couldn't say.

It's definitely got some campiness to it for being a younger show, but it kinda.... adds to it a bit? I'm definitely looking forward to more episodes. The crew members all showed a lot of character development through the season. I showed it to my 8 year old niece and she enjoyed it as well.

You may also want to look into Trollhunters on Netflix. The creators/showrunners of ST:Prodigy, Kevin and Dan Hageman, have nearly all the story writing credits on Trollhunters. It's a fantasy cgi YA cartoon that was showrun by Guillermo del Toro and Marc Guggenheim. It ended up spawning a two-series (Trollhunters, 3 Below)/one miniseries (Wizards)/one movie (Rise of the Titans) franchise on Netflix, the "Tales of Arcadia".

They spaced it out much too long, but otherwise it’s pretty good. Better than Discovery at any rate.

Discovery gets a lot of shit, but i must say, i quite enjoy it. Voyager is my favorite ST show. I think i like them for the same reasons. Each show was about a ship getting stranded in an unknown time/location. Picard was neat as well, the ending to the recent series has me excited for the future of ST.

This should've been Disco. Age up the characters, make it live action and make it the current day primary Trek. It has an organically diverse cast that work as a streamlined ensemble, a reasonably advanced ship that makes it a plausible standout for it take centre stage in federation operations. Most importantly, it's central conceit of it being a rag tag crew of survivors coming to represent the best ideals of the federation by learning along the way what it means to be part of starfleet is the best way to showcase Trek to a new audience. This should've been the premise for the main Trek show of this era but I'm glad kids get a show of this quality as an entry to the federation.

I'm a few episodes behind. Before SNW, it was the best ST show since the 90s (I like Lower Decks too, but it's less in the tone of what I'm looking for with ST). What I've seen so far has been pretty good and I'll continue watching it with Season 2 when it comes out. I'm well outside of the target demo for it, but I think it has a wide appeal.

Why was there such a huge gap in between the two halves of the season?

TheNerdChaplain OP t1_j268f23 wrote

It had something to do with how Nickelodeon does stuff, I'm not sure.

I thought it was great. My wife and I have enjoyed watching it with our 10yo daughter. My daughter has absolutely loved it and has re-watched it from the beginning a couple times. She hasn't had a chance to watch the finale yet but I know she'll love it as much as the others.

I thought it was very good. At first I was thrown off by a crew that was practically all non-Starfleet (except some of their races, for some reason), but it all came together. Seeing Admiral Janeway turn from well-intentioned antagonist to downright one of the good guys was a treat. Interesting that they can now cross the galaxy in a matter of days now rather than decades.

Anyway, I hope they get a second season, but regardless, I feel we’ve gotten a solid ten hours of Star Trek. And one really cool opening theme.

It might be the best written and Ironically most mature star trek written since 2005. I wasn't expecting anything good from this but is surprised me and I found myself eager to consume a new episode each week which is not something I've done with any of the Star trek ever made with Alex Kurtzmans name of it

I stopped watching after a few episodes. It wasn't awful, but I was not finding it worthwhile. Perhaps as a kid I would have liked it more.
