Last week, I ordered shake shack and picked up the food without knowing they messed up my order (wrong fries). So, the other day, I went back with the receipt and talked to the manager about it. Due to some unfortunate events, they only do pick-up on that day. The manager then asked me to order the fries via app (UberEats) and he will process the refund, which should go back to my account within a week. If not, I can come back and ask for him. I said ok, although I didn't even want fries that day but sure. The manager was friendly and helpful. I was happy lol

I waited for over a week, but the refund never came. I know the $$ was small, but I'm pretty broke and live close to the store. So, I went back and looked for the manager. He said he was surprised the refund didn't show up and asked if he can get me anything today to make me happy. I was like umm not really. He then said he can give me the refund now at the cashier. He punched in the fries, asked me to swipe my card, then gave me the receipt saying refund for 1 order of fries. He said the refund should reflect on my account now and I might even get two refunds. Somehow, I thought I'll be getting another fries today (since he gave me the receipt and put in the fries order). So, I sat down and awkwardly waited near the cashier, which was quite busy. After 15 minutes, I realized that maybe I misunderstood. So, I went back to him again and told him I'm confused about whether I was supposed to get fries today (?). He was like "oh do you want fries? I can get you fries." LOL

I was so embarrassed about the situation. A few minutes later, I walked out of the store with fries. However, I checked my bank account and I did not see any transaction today. It was like the transaction didn't happen. Did I misunderstand the process? If I didn't go up and asked for the fries, I was probably back to square one of not getting any refund. If anyone has any insights on this, feel free to comment.

Before this, I thought I did the right thing, but now I'm just confused and embarrassed. The manager was awesome. I probably won't go back to that Shake Shack ever.

TL;DR - Went back to Shake Shack twice to ask for a refund for fries. Might misunderstand what the manager said and wait for the fries that never came. Had to go back and embarrassingly ask for the fries out of confusion.

If I understand this correctly; they charged you through UberEats refunded it and it didn't drop off then you went in and did it again then they dropped? Were the pending charges or posted?

that sucks. I went to McDonald's the other day and instead of ketchup only they gave me no ketchup. was pissed especially since McDonald's makes no effort to make things right when they fuck up, which is often

I think you have to go to your order and choose the option of “something wrong with my order.” They give you a list of reasons to choose from. I can’t remember if they give you the refund right away or just gives you $8 ubereats credit.

If the transaction(s) was/were done over the weekend, it very likely won't show until the next business day or two. If it's a credit card transaction, they typically take longer to appear on the account than it does with a debit transaction. I'd drop it at this point. Manager handled beautifully. Good customer service.

I've been working at the same place for at least 2 years. Were you charged twice? (once when you went to the store for a pick up order plus when the manager told you to order it again but use Uber eats). The fact that you had the original receipt handy is usually helpful. But at my business, there's not much we can do if customers show up several days later. But I don't know what rules are applied to Shake Shack specifically. Next time you go there, ask a different employee if they're a manager. If they are, I'd go over details with them. But if you notice the same manager every time your near shake shake, I wouldn't wanna waste time

Jesus those are expensive fries. This whole time I'm like, "Whatevr, cut your losses, how much could it have been, like another 2 bucks?" But for 8 bucks, yeah I guess I'd also try and get a refund on principle as well.

And hey at KFC 8 fricken chicken strips are like $27 holy crap. I can get a chicken and fries box (4 strips and medium fries) plus a milkshake for about 18-20 at most. And BurgerVille is my top 2. (Being that I RARELY get any fast food)

Fries at shake shack in NYC are $3.99, direct from the shake shack app. Not sure what this guy was ordering but he mentions Uber eats, where all the prices are jacked up. The new "hot ones" fries come with cheese and bacon and spicy sauce and those are 7.59, but that's definitely more than a standard order of fries.

Shake shack employees also get a full slate of benefits and paid more than minimum wage, so eating there costs more than say, McDonald's. The food is also higher quality.

Why don’t you just charge back with the bank ?

Sounds like you’re caught in the middleman loop, so there’s the shake shack point of sale system processing the refund which has to go through Ubereats (still confused why they’re involved) and then your bank/card company, most refunds are not immediate (as LITTLE as 30 days in some cases) and your case has multiple stages. The main fuck up in this story is how much time you have spent seeking a refund over getting the wrong fries but sounds like you’ve come out ahead with bonus fries
