I drive to IKEA in Canada. It's only two hours but be prepared for long waits to get back in the usa

Go through the Alburgh crossing. Zero wait.

We came back (to VT) through Alburgh a few weeks ago. Two lane road, so single file line. American cars pretty much got waved through, while Canadian cars no exaggeration took 15-20 mins each. So about a 12 car line took us 1.5 hours. Can’t even imagine how far the line backed up behind us.

Wow that's weird, I've never seen Canadian cars being screened for that long, and usually the Alburgh crossing is dead unless it's a major holiday. But in your situation, I would've just gone to the 133/89 crossing at that point, would've been much faster, (it definitely wouldn't have taken 1.5 hours for 12 cars to go through.) Unless it's a holiday, I've never waited longer than 30 minutes there, and I'm not even American.

Nothing fun about it, all the bridges into the city are closed every weekend, traffic is beyond ridiculous, and so are the insanely stupid and aggressive drivers.

Not at all, in fact I literally live in Montreal. If you lived here long enough you'd get fed up of it too.

Yeah vermonts fantastic if you like paying a lot of money to have nothing to do and basic stuff not be available. The restaurants and weed shops are shit too. This place is peel-your-skin-off boring.

Vermont is covered with trees and craftsman.

There's 250+ years of well-crafted handmade solid wood furniture, basically everywhere. And often for very affordable prices.

Wood furniture lasts longer than particle-board veneer and paper; it doesn't fall apart on the second or third move. It can be passed down through generations. And it's already in the state.

I'm not sure there would be much demand for IKEA in Vermont because finding real furniture is as easy as finding real maple syrup.

Yeah, part of the issues was it was our first time to Canada in a long time so we kind of wondered if this was normal. In reality the wait had became a sunk cost, but so hard to think that way in the moment. Also we were in an EV, so taking alternative routes become even more limited! Thanks for the suggestions though, will do next time.

In the NEK... we just don't get Ikea stuff. Both Montreal and the south side of Boston are just a bit too far to make a daytrip worthwhile.

From what I've seen around here, if you want cheap furniture, you wait to see what your neighbors leave on the curb.
