We know how dangerous that can be. Let's not forget Russia shooting down a Korean airline in 1983 and a Malaysian airline in 2014. Did Russia ever say "sorry!" or "we'll pay!" - actually, no.
TheJazzButter t1_iucvv40 wrote
Well, they certainly don't need to be flying out of American airports then. I'm sure their new Russian friends will be happy to fill their airplanes' seats.

Putin must be really desperate for "success stories" at this point even if it means shooting down more commercial airplanes. I really do have to wonder why the decision to open Russian airspace given the current situation and Russia's horrible track record. The people manning the missiles are incompetent.

Chinese airline these days so pretty safe for them.

Lmao yeah sure, let get my luggage ready so I can go to China from the US crossing Russian air space
Rutankrd t1_iud3y88 wrote
Along with Emirates currently crossing Russian airspace from San Francisco , Air India , El Al QATAR and a host of Chinese Carriers ( remember Hong Kong is increasingly just another province) and Turkish or and Air Serbia !
All above route flights through Russian air space every day and also to the US
AltNationReality t1_iud5j54 wrote
IMO... the US should ban any flights that overfly russia as a matter of maintaining the appearance of solidarity with Ukraine.
I'm sorry but russia is off limits IMO. They want to be bullies... let them play in their sandbox all by themselves. Do not allow flights that overfly russia to land in cities that are allied with Ukraine.
ITryHardByo t1_iud877y wrote
Not only for solidarity, but it's literally a life and death situation, russia has shot down more than one commercial airliner in these conflict areas before, and that's when things were calmer and people were supposedly better trained, wouldn't want to try my luck now with a bunch of untrained conscripts in this War/PTSD/trigger-finger/FUBAR atmosphere.

You are incorrect. Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down by pro-Russian forces in 2014.
298 people died.

Sorry, but you’ve moved the goal posts to be “pro Russian forces” instead of Russia. Tell the truth and be honest.
michelsapin t1_iud9o3t wrote
Hu? He's obviously talking about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_17 not MH370
Nice try with the racism deflection! A tad too obvious, but nice try!
Usual-Limit6396 t1_iud9s4p wrote
How is it obvious? It’s like saying the New Zealanders (pro American forces) used agent orange against children in Vietnam.
Be honest. No need to lie. Justice is already in our side. Slava Ukraine.

The Russian Federation is the legal successor to the Soviet Union, so they were right about that.
The BUK that shot down Malaysia 370 was supplied by Russia to troops that were fighting on Russian orders, with Russian personnel among them and with direct support from the Kremlin. That goalpost has been moved a couple of centimeters, if at all.
Usual-Limit6396 t1_iudbgaq wrote
Legal smeagol, let’s be honest. And centimeters are centimeters, trust me. I’m a jelqer. Be honest! Ukraine Slava!
Desurvivedsignator t1_iudgh39 wrote
I'm honest.
Dishonest is claiming that the Russians didn't have their finger on the trigger when MH370 was shot down.
It's also dishonest to claim that the USSR and the RF are two different entities. Heck, even Putin would dispute that!
Usual-Limit6396 t1_iudgppf wrote
Wrong. You are just making stuff up. It’s just like when it was reported about Russians paying for bounties in US soldiers in Afghanistan. Everyone believed it and reported it because, “it’s ok to be racist against Russians.”
As for USSR and Russia I don’t agree with Putin on pretty much everything, so appealing to your daddy won’t do any good with me!
Be honest. Let’s kick their asses, but let’s make sure it’s via truth and not assumptions with no proof! (That rhymed making it double effective! Slava Ukraine. 🇺🇦
Then, when we win, let’s help them build back better, too. So this never ever happens again. Stop the hate. Live in truth.

To be fair that plane intruded Russian airspace without authorization because they switched their navigation mode to attitude control instead of internal reference. But you bet Russia if presented with a suspected spy plane, they will actually shoot it down
This event also prompted the US government to release the use of GPS to civilian

You're insinuating that Putin's "my daddy", but are following the Russian propaganda's talking points to the letter, e.g. with the "anti-russian racism" bit.
Care to explain where I'm wrong? Where did the BUK come from?
