Direct Amp Cooler, that's what it stands for isn't it?

Yeah the HD800s are infamous for this defect, really incredible that they get to charge so much for a poorly built headphone.

I found the M50s very uncomfortable after long periods, maybe it's my ears or something, I use dekoni pads on them now which is much more comfortable but the tonality changes a lot and I only use them with EQ.

Try adjusting the 64hz slider to get the amount of bass you want in the Arctis App.
Also the Harman target isn't for everyone, it's best to tune the bass to your own preference.

I think you will have to wait until FIIO adds PEQ to one of their larger DAPs for a proper solution.

I regret buying an AKG k7XX, for the price that they were the build quality and tonality was awful. I have since sold this for a tenth of price i bought it for.
I also regret buying an AudioEngine D1 DAC as that really didn't make a difference in sound quality compared to my onboard audio and didn't really offer any more volume. Although the optical input was handy sometimes.
Apart from that don't have any other regretful purchases.

This has always happened regardless of where they are made, it's just an issue with the cheap design, people think because it's made in china the quality has gone down hill but it's not true it's always been the same flawed design.
Happened to my AKG k7XX, it's unfortunate the K6 and K7 series have this design flaw as well as the elastics eventually wearing out. They are great headphones otherwise.
If you want solid build quality I would look into Beyerdynamic headphones.

Ath-m50s with DekoniSheepskin pads EQ'd using Oratory1990 settings
SHP9500 EQ'd using Oratory1990 settings, I pair this with a qudlex 5k for console gaming and sometimes watching movies.
7hz Salnotes Zero, mostly keep this pair around for when i'm travelling and I don't want to take anything bulky or expensive. It's the reliable but expendable pair.
Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
Honestly I would keep the Galaxy Buds 2 pro if I only had to keep one. I really like the tuning and the technicalities are pretty good too for a TWS IEM, it's just so effortless to enjoy music with these in most situations.

I basically applied the oratory1990 preset but lowered the bass shelf a bit to my taste. I use a qudelix 5k on my ps5 to apply the parametric EQ and then connect the shp9500 to that.

Stopped at:
ATH-M50s with Dekoni Sheepskin pads EQ'd to Oratory 1990 preset. Pads make it much more comfortable and EQ fixes tonality. Have it modified with a 3.5mm jack with a v moda boom mic plugged in. Now it's a great headset for working from home. Although arguably a noise cancelling headset would be better.
Galaxy Buds 2 pro for when I am out and about. I love the well resolved bass of this 2 dynamic driver wireless IEM. Technicalities are surprisingly decent for this pair.
7Hz Salnotes Zero with Gizaudio 'Perfect' EQ - a nice little set to experiment with and good to take on planes with to plugin to their in seat entertainment.
SHP9500 with Oratory EQ and some small personal adjustments. Great for movies and gaming. Slightly too low resolution for really good music enjoyment but the immersive soundstage and imaging is nice for music listening.
Qudelix 5k as amp/dac with PEQ functionality.

In that case your best bet is parametric EQ.

Sell them and buy a pair of AKG k371 or use parametric eq (specifically oratory 1990 profile)
I have an ATH-M50s (older coiled cable version) and I have tried pad rolling but it doesn't really work. Only thing that has is parametric EQ. If i could do it again I would sell it and buy something like an AKG K371 or a pair of good IEMs.
