The only reason this wasn't much much worse is because there was an employee inside who called 911 immediately.
This very easily could have killed people, and the fact that someone got so triggered over a piece of fabric that they either tried, or didn't care about, killing several people is a problem.
If you don't have anyone that would gladly burn you to death over a basic aspect of your identity, I'm envious, since I apparently can't say the same.

Given that her hatred of a rainbow flag was so strong that it appears to have motivated her to set a fire that burned the façade of the building and very much could have gotten much much worse, especially as there are apartments above the restaurant, it is, perhaps, a relevant part of the story to note.
It is generally unusual to be driven to such anger by a piece of fabric that one commits arson.

IG Story from Councilman Erik Bottcher with surveillance video.
Just gotta say, it's very disheartening to see progress go backwards, even if I think it is probably accurate to say that this is just the last dying gasp of a pitiful angry minority.

I wonder, if another, more inclusive organization, filed for conflicting permits on the same streets at the same time, could the city opt to choose the inclusive parade under some ostensibly secular basis?

Ah yes, the legendarily calm and well-behaved people of Europe that have never had any single episode of getting a little goofy.

"Everyone who disagrees with me is a New York Times employee" is a new one for me, gotta say.
You might consider the wild possibility that, rather than conspiracy against you, you simply said something unpopular.
But nah, I'm sure They™ are just out to get you. That must be it.

Not to mention, Manhattan is significantly less dense than it was 100 years ago.

I get your point, but him being gay is directly relevant to this story.
Yeah, it'd be weird if this was a story about his bill on pest control or something, but this story is about a hate group that vandalized his building, harassed his staff, and accused him of being a pedophile, specifically because he's gay and has stood up for the LGBT community. It absolutely makes sense to mention it in this context.

They directly accused him of being a pedophile and child predator.
Calling gay men pedophiles, shockingly original.

You're right, it's really putting priests and ministers in front of children that should be concerning.
Since like, sex crimes by the clergy is actually a documented phenomenon.

The question is if wielding the hammer of government power is justifiable.
If there wasn't demand for foie gras, it wouldn't be produced. If enough people become convinced that it's some uniquely horrific ethical issue, they'll stop eating it and the issue resolves itself.

Thanks for bringing some actual research into these discussions though. That doesn't happen nearly enough.

Yeah, that was my thought exactly. It's an exploration of existentialism, with a focus on absurdism, that simply uses a sci-fi multiverse setting to illustrate its points.
Hell, you can very easily interpret all the multiverse stuff as metaphor that never actually occurred in the primary universe of the movie, and the fundamental plot (re: the existentialist journey and resolution of familial trauma) is still there. To me, it was essentially an absurdist dialogue illustrated through sci-fi, and to that end, I found it to be incredibly clever.
