They probably want to use it to automate ransomware transactions or other scams. That's where the money is. Hardcore russian criminals don't give a fuck about politics or anyone else. They're capitalists, basically.

Yeah, I've been to Asian countries where street food is common and aside from health concerns I don't see it as anything but a good thing. It's cheap, easy, and often better than you'd get in many restaurants. Also I'm sure there are unhygienic vendors but I never got sick from street food.

Shit, about twenty years ago people used to leave old computers out on the street. I'd pick them up and swap out faulty components with working bits from other machines I'd found. Eventually set up a free internet cafe thingie in a local kind of community squat. Only had half a dozen machines working at any time and there was constant maintenance but it was an inner city area where everyone except the drug dealers was broke and it was somewhere people could get online for free. It's been years since I've seen old computers dumped like that. People seem to hang onto them as long as they can, which is great - too much e-waste anyway. Plus everyone has tablets now I guess.

Happily, it's probably the easiest body part to flush straight down the crapper. Not exactly a dignified burial, but if you've already eaten the rest of the body this is unlikely to be a major concern.

The Bible thing is odd, I thought a lot of churches gave them away for free? Although it's decades since I stopped going to church so maybe this has changed.

If it only put their own lives at risk I'd say that was their choice. But they are also risking the lives of people who might try to rescue them. And then there's the ones who take their kids on these crazy trips.

For those of us who are only familiar with Celsius, I've just checked and that is absolutely fucking freezing. Wind chill must be crazy. Wouldn't take someone long to die outside in those conditions. Hope you guys can stay safe and warm.

Jesus. Imagine the state of the bathrooms by now. Slathered in shit and blood and less identifiable substances.

I do proper quality baked potatoes in my wood burner. Wrap a baking potato in foil, pop it on the embers and turn every twenty minutes or so. Give it a couple of hours and it's perfect. I have mine with loads of butter, and tuna and sweetcorn but I'm willing to accept that there may be other valid accompaniments.
Or, yeah, you can stand a pot on top. Wood burners are great for stuff like stews and curries that want to cook for a while.

Just goes to show how you have to take history with a pinch of salt. Historians' preconceptions colour their perceptions like anyone else's.

Mate, if I were in charge you'd be welcome. But if I were in charge we wouldn't have left the EU either. Whatever people tell you, a lot of the motivation behind brexit was xenophobia and a desire to stop immigration. Fuck the fact that migrant workers are essential to parts of our economy, and the brexit voters were largely elderly people who certainly weren't going to fill the job vacancies created.
But I've met a fair few Americans working in England, so it can be done. And we're pretty welcoming to tourists. The pound isn't doing well against the dollar recently so it may be a good time to visit if you can afford to. Drop me a msg if you do and I'll show you some great English pubs!

We're desperate for workers but many people - and most of the government - are strongly against migrant workers because we seem to be trying to fuck our economy.

I'm afraid I'm a fairly promiscuous reader rather than an expert. I usually have multiple books on the go at any one time and flit across genres and periods. Perhaps /r/askhistorians may be able to recommend something.

I've actually read it several times. Certainly I preferred to return to some parts more than others but I didn't find it at all tedious. TBF I also really like Moby Dick, which many people seem to feel is unreadable - so maybe I'm something of an outlier.

I didn't find it tedious at all. Fascinating look at the period, the war, the overlapping of cultures, and Lawrence's own flawed and lacerated self. Just IMO, but wanted to make the point that it's worth reading.

In fact, they tend to cascade. Environmental damage, drought or flood, reduced crop yields, famine, war, plague. Usually in that order but sometimes they get mixed up, and sometimes you get a bonus natural disaster.

Yeah, that's why they'll so often sell us out so cheaply. Either we have rich politicians or we have rich people buying and controlling the politicians. Either way, we are nothing but a resource from which to extract maximum value.
Yeah, occasionally you get politicians who mean well, they generally get stomped by the media - most of which is owned by a small group of rich people. Either way, we're fucked.
