As an alternative, Rhode Island, particularly Providence, is incredibly progressive and LGBTQIA+ friendly. It’s about an hour from Boston and has an MBTA commuter rail. It also has a significantly lower cost of living than the Greater Boston Areas in Massachusetts (it is still considered the GBA)

I heard the shortage is very significant on the south shore in particular now. It just took me 10 days to find it. Most pharmacies had the name brand, but that’s $360 out of pocket for a month supply.

The shortages are particularly bad right now with lower doses, since people on higher doses are getting prescribed multiples of the lower ones to add up to their dosages. (Ex: if you take 60mg and the pharmacy has 20mg they tell you to get your doc to resend with 20mg 3x daily to take at the same time).

Adderall IS medically necessary. Especially if you take it for narcolepsy. The general public doesn’t understand the complexity of ADHD, especially inattentive type. It’s not just hyperactive little boys who are impulsive, it is a disorder that can cause significant impacts to quality of life and even life in general for some people.

And it doesn’t just magically go away when you turn 18, in fact more and more women in their 30-40’s are being diagnosed because we were overlooked when we were children in the 90’s since people did think it was just for hyperactive little boys.

Contact the DDS office nearest to you (reach out to your school system for help with this if needed). They have caseworkers who help with this transition, and also with the process of legal guardianship after 18. There are dayhab programs, residential programs or support workers who DDS can pay for to help with all of this.

I work in elementary sped now, but a few years ago discussions about aging out/next steps was a requirement at every IEP meeting after age 14.

I suggest moving wherever is the best place for you without this in mind & hiring a very good educational advocate to fight for their rights in that school system. And if they can’t provide FAPE, request to be sent to a collaborative on that towns dime.

There’s EDCO which was already mentioned, and the North Shore Education Consortium that specializes in Deaf/HOH as well, but any collaborative that the town is a part of will have specialized resources. That’s why they exist.

Braintree schools are already bursting at the seams with kids. With 500 apartments there will certainly be more kids entering the system. The concern is that Braintree doesn’t currently have the capacity for it.

But also, it is literally within feet of that school. The town closed an access road from the plaza to the school in the early 2000’s because of traffic concerns then. Added people could make it an issue again
