Just a hypothesis, but maybe because stormy weather makes people want to cook soup? Seriously! Lots of soups have kale in them!

That’s like when the weather started getting cooler this fall I went to try and get large shells for stuffed shells and they were sold out EVERYWHERE

A house came up for sale in westerly (where we are looking) the other week and we were legitimately so excited. It was a small bungalow, needed a little updating but would have made a perfect starter home for us. It was also under 400k and seemed too good to be true. It was close enough to where we live now that I walked by to make sure we weren’t being house-catfished.

It was pending sale literally 24 hour later. Didn’t even make it to the open house.

Yeah, I think a lot of the shock comes from the fact that suddenly their rate is higher when they haven’t changed any of their normal habits! Doesn’t mean they aren’t willing to make changes to save electricity (for example, I used to leave the above-stove light on at night as a nightlight and now I don’t).

Your point about making sure there isn’t some major factor using energy that didn’t exist before is a good suggestion, but I think most people are just surprised by how much their costs have changed when everything else has been a constant.

I live in-and love-Westerly. We have been here 2 years in an apartment close to downtown (our neighbors just moved btw so I know one apartment that may be advertised soon!) and have found a great sense of community here. I work in Narragansett and I’ll be honest, the commute blows. It would not be easy to commute daily around here without a car and even with a car it’s a drag—by Rhode Island Standards of course. 40 min commutes aren’t atypical for the rest of the USA, but I swear that taking Route 1 3x a week has taken years off of my life.

I’ve seen a fair amount od For Rent signs in the area and also across the River in Pawcatuck. I would expand my search to different sites, we found ours on Zillow 🤷🏼‍♀️ but check FB marketplace too

Yes! Fully agreed on the shared experience. This is..totally the opposite but I remember last New Years Eve we were home watching the Miley Cyrus special and she started to have a wardrobe malfunction at one point and we were like “is her top falling off?” And it was just fun to get on Twitter (the only time Twitter is actually useful) and see others thinking/reacting to the same thing. Reminded me of the good old days!
