I think they are referring to inherited wealth, courtesy of mom and dad (who are dead).

So the CNN article links to the venerable "Wallethub.com" as its source. But when you go to Wallethub Vermont is ranked as #34 for best places to retire. Curiously, Wallethub deems Vermont #7 in quality of life and # 6 in healthcare but #48 in affordability. Maybe, just maybe things are unaffordable because many people actually *do* want to live here. Even in retirement!
In conclusion, these lists are garbage.

If you are traveling weekends, Pi Alley Garage is right downtown and only 24 dollars a day. Only a .75 mile walk to the Garden.

My two cents from a Vermonter. Its deregulation that has you all over a barrel. CT should never have forced its monopolies to sell their generation assets. Now you pay for the profits at both the generation level, transmission level, and distribution level.

I tend to agree but would also recognize that publicly owned utilities have not covered themselves in glory throughout history. Whichever ownership model you have, there needs to be adequate government oversight that is shielded from political influence to the maximum extent possible.

We do this in Vermont already. For an example read GMP's rate plan. Basically, an earnings cap is set and any over or under earnings are shared with ratepayers. https://greenmountainpower.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Multi-Year-Regulation-Plan.pdf

All of these ideas are pretty bat-shit but number 2 is the most ridiculous. This man just discovered the solution to our polarized times: cancel culture!

Unfortunately, I left off option 4, which is probably the most likely: interpose specious legal arguments for the purpose of delay. This strategy has been very effective to date and I am sure he has a couple of appeals left in him.

Man this case has been on a slow cook for several years. Seems like the walls are closing in on Mr. Banyai. I wonder whether he is going to (1) comply with the court order, (2) go down in a hail of bullets, or (3) disappear from Vermont and hope the courts aren't pissed enough to go looking for him.

I lived in employee dorms in my late teens through early twenties when I worked at seasonal resorts. Very fun for drunk kids. Hell for adults.

Hate-crime statutes have been on the books for years and are routinely enforced by the courts. In many cases the perpetrators of hate crimes are very open about their motivations for shooting up a synagogue or posting flaming crosses in peoples' yards. Some racists are weird like that.

I have read that you need relatively straight lines to achieve comfortable high speed service. Moving through the valleys of the green mountains at faster than 120 MPH would probably feel too much like a roller coaster for the average rail passenger.

For many houses, the gutters will save your siding big time by eliminating the backsplash.
