I honestly think previous generations were just as lactose intolerant but just in denial. People would get gassy/bloated/runs from too much dairy for the longest time but it’s just been suck-it-up-buttercup instead of thinking that maybe they shouldn’t be eating so much cheese.

Never going back to Balise.

I bought a used Grand Cherokee there like 15 years ago. Pointed out that the coolant light was on and the oil pressure gauge kept reading low during the test drive. They assured it would be fixed before pickup.

The coolant was full when I picked it up but the light came back on the next day. The oil gauge never worked right.

I brought it in and was told there’s a blown head gasket. Wanted to charge me full price for repair a few days after purchase.

Like, dude, I pointed out the coolant issue during test drive and you just topped it off and called it a day. I’m not paying full price for a head gasket repair the same week I bought the truck. That’s why you go to “big” dealerships and not Joey’s House of Cars, you expect vehicles get inspected and repaired prior to purchase.

Had to fight with them for a while to get it fixed. They offered me a Volvo that just got traded in with dash lights like a Christmas tree and reeking of cigar smoke.

What a shady ass group of people.

I’ve never been unhappy with Tarbox (aside from some distaste over SRS repairs but that’s a manufacturer/R2R issue and nothing to do with that shop/dealership in particular).

We bought our Odyssey at Silko last year and have been pretty happy so far. It’s a bit of a trek from RI though.

Yeah…I’m in the sweet spot this time of year where the sun blasting through my glass storm door provides more heat than I lose from drafts.

Gotta love southern-facings.

Completely agree. I’ve often said that roads need to feel unsafe to go over 30 on if you want people to actually slow down. “Traffic calming infrastructure” is a much better way of saying that.

Putting automatic speed cameras in front of schools generated revenue and gets people to slow down but has little measurable effect on student safety since people are watching their speedometers more closely than the road and just slam it as soon as they are past the camera anyway.

Much better to narrow the roads (and in the process either expanding sidewalks and/or adding protected bike lanes), add more controlled intersections, add raised crosswalks, rotaries, etc.

Or just not build the new school on a fucking four lane state highway right next to the interstate. Looking at you, EP.

People listen to terrestrial radio…for music?

That just seems so weird to me.

Like, I can get sports or talk radio. Music radio nowadays is just such shit. It’s the same short rotation with 10% of the airtime for ads and 20% of the airtime for shitty aimless banter and heavily-diluted (and usually heavily-opinionated) “news”.

It’s amazing mobile streaming has totally killed the platform.

ETA: yeah obviously talk radio news is heavily opinionated but at least you know what you’re getting. Typical music station jocks aren’t who I’d trust for any semblance of “news”.

A friend of mine took TF Green to Backbay every day for a job. Made it sound like a not big deal, convinced me to get a job in Boston

I rode from S Attleboro to South Station, and then red line to Kendall, for about a year before I started to drive it instead. And then I started working from home.

I cannot go back to that commute. The train isn’t so bad…it’s idle time which I don’t seem to get a lot of these days, and could really use more of. But the schedule sucks, and driving into Cambridge is just so damn draining.

I think 8th grade was the only year I had “civics”. Every other year was world or US history. Had an elective in HS that focused on WW2 Germany/The Holocaust. Another elective on criminal justice. Another elective for anthropology.

I don’t think US history ever made it past the 30s.

Johnston High, class of 2003.

…the whole point of the interstate highway system is to connect the capitals and major commerce centers of all the states. A highway that doesn’t go through the middle of the city would be a pretty shitty highway. Could you imagine if it just dipped into Olneyville and everyone wanting to get downtown or through the east side had to finish through backroads? Then multiply that by every commerce center in every state in the country.

Though I do kind of wish that the “norm” was a park and ride in an outskirts of the city paired with an efficient, effective, safe and family-friendly public transit. Unfortunately RIPTA is none of the above.

Velcro doesn’t usually go bad that fast. It gets lint stuck in it that reduces its effectiveness. A little bit of maintenance with a good set of tweezers or nimble fingernails goes a long way.
