I wouldn’t even so much say “lazy” as “underfunded”. Takes money to pay devs, takes money to build servers. More server side operations requires more servers which requires more money. Cheaper to push that to the client.

Plus I get the suspicion that their front end map dashboard is a nice-to-have but the primary use-case is API…especially in mobile. Not knowing anything about this site/app though.

Like Reddit, the huge for-profit social media empire that still had an 8 hour long near-full outage a couple days ago? Yeah.

Except it seems like there’s a lot more client-side stuff happening on this non-profit open-source site. From what I could load before by browser crashed, at least.

I’m not faulting this site, either. If anything the biggest fault is auto-loading a world map. It’d probably be better to not do that and either get location and zoom in locally, or ask for location. I’d also think that it’s probably better to scrape programmatically (I.e., have something on a HomeAssistant Dashboard that gets the air quality for your specific location) and I’d guess that most people wouldn’t interact with the main page directly.

Yeah but you gotta treck down to Providence (and pay Providence Parking, or deal with RIPTA to get to Kennedy Plaza and then get to the train station).

Keep a couple of more northern stops -- maybe Mansfield and Route 128 (both large stops and easily accessible from the highway) and it'd be a damn good park-and-ride though.

Of course Mansfield parking sucks for non-residents though....Attleboro has a ton of parking, but the streets leading up to the stop from the highway have a very limited capacity.

Housing outside the 495 belt has always been significantly cheaper than inside, but that tide is changing. We bought our house (Attleboro/Norton line) just 5 years ago and it's gone up nearly 40% in Zestimate since then.

So, wait a tick…

If you’ve got two watches in perfect sync on earth, and one leaves at a low rate of speed (well below speed of light), where is “out” of our gravity well that they are significantly losing sync, and would that still hold true with atomic clocks?

Assuming we had some sort of hypothetical instantaneous radio communication, would the communications be distorted once one side were in a different gravity well?

Ugh yeah.

Maybe I'm getting old but man it's annoying. I used to have a loud stereo system in my first car when I was a teenager, but I'd only really crank it up on the highway.

Now the other day I was at BJ's gas filling up and some dude was blasting music at the gas pump. Like, why? Can you literally not go 5 minutes without everyone in a 300' radius being able to hear your music?

And this wasn't even a kid, it was a grown-ass man in a late-model pickup (with a flatbed trailer).

No, I live in Attleboro, work in Cambridge. Commuted by train/redline for a year, then car for a year, now WFH with occasional drive-in.

I’d thought about living in Greater Boston/Providence but don’t think I’d acclimate well to carless life (esp with two small kids), and I really dislike driving in the city.

Huh?

1, most remotes are one-way, transmit only. Some get a confirmation response back, but that’s pretty much just aftermarket or high-end OEM.

2, you’re giving common car thieves way too much credit. Literally just have to walk around the nearest parking lot(s) pressing the lock button and listening for horns/beeps.

Years ago (probably c2001) I had to do a report in highschool that required me pulling some old newspaper articles.

I think it was the RI Historical Society, on the East Side, had a collection of old projo's on microfiche. I'd recommend looking there. If not, they might be able to dig something up for you.

Or just an old fridge.

Take a $100 bill and close the fridge door on it and see if it pulls out easily. If it does then you might need a new seal. Go all around the perimeter.

Then get another $100 bill and do the same on the freezer.

If you do need a new seal, each bill should just about cover the cost of parts. Installation is easy.

Only reason I haven’t replaced them is because they are so freaking expensive and I need new shelves and drawers too. By that point it’s almost cheaper to buy a new damn fridge.

Is that where Caldor was?

I remember a lot of drives up and down Rt2 and Garden City when I was a kid. Usually CompUSA (Where hobby lobby is now), Lechmere (where Target is now), Tweeter (where Lumber Liquidators is now), and Circuit City (I think now Container Store).

I remember that Seekonk Caldor, I think, was where Target is now …and I feel like there was a Warwick Caldor, but I can’t place where.

Tilt (and Aladdins Castle) was where I spent most my High School days. Then TGA. None of these are around anymore…

It’s a barcade though, 21+ except on family days (which seem to be every-other Sunday).

Take the kids to D&B, which is still only ~15 minute walk from The Arcade.

My guess is probably somewhere between your two guesses.

Siblings had a falling out, Big bro wants to make amends but the other won’t answer his calls. Big bro knows the other one visits moms/dads/aunties/etc bench on Christmas and left a note for them to find.
