I do think that Fulop could be a better advocate. Agreed he doesn’t control but together with other mayors, they should flex their muscle more and better advocate for residents.

Agreed. Have lived in many cities and neighborhoods. Jersey City feels very unsafe as a pedestrian — and also for cycling and driving. I almost wonder if every single person on this thread emailed the mayor this week at sfulop@jcnj.org along with Mike Manzella at mmanzella@jcnj.org and lit a fire under their assess calling on them to step up traffic calming efforts and traffic enforcement, if it would make some difference. Couldn’t hurt, right?

Couldn’t agree more. Anytime there are traffic calming efforts, there are so many loud voices in opposition. Case in point: see image.

Please get involved with these groups and your community associations to support these efforts.

I’d recommend Journal Square — feels generally safe but would recommend with any neighborhood in any city (even downtown JC) to be aware of your surroundings. I think it’s a very convenient neighborhood with great cafes, an arts scene, cultural events, and more and more coming each day with the development that’s happening.

But isn’t construction in Hilltop a nightmare? I read SCF complaints every day from your area about the lack of sidewalks for pedestrians and construction starting at 5am. Also the Ward councilman here is a dunce. Doesn’t even know how to use email. Poor constituent services. At least Downtown people get a good councilman who is responsive.

LOL. As if no one with “well paying jobs” who wants to experience city life lives in Journal Square. Have you considered that some people who want city life also want to embrace living in and giving back to a diverse community? Do you hear yourself?
