Jamie fox is now owner of his limo thing. Married happy everything behind him.
But it turns out new bad guy someone thinks he knows/saw more than he did. Thinks Vincent told a secret slipped some kind of info… something missing all these years l” where is the thumb drive?” Who gave the “order?”….maybe he’s Vincent’s partner? Revenge? Standard action trope stuff pick one.
Catch he’s been stuck in prison the last 15 years and now he’s out. Now he’s out and goes to find Jamie Fox. And the nightmare starts fresh.

Considering like 8.575 billion people died in the movie.. and that the rigged nature of the lottery was a key script point… I wonder if you “got it”

Jaws.
Young Renegade Untested Spielberg
The production issues forced him to take crazy chances and make amazing choices on how to tell the story ,leading to some of the finest blocking and shooting I have ever seen.
Awesome cast, great performances, amazing settings and scenery, the Orca is an awesome set.
great pacing great laughs great screams... it has everything. and by the time the shark shows up you are so invested it doesn't matter that it's "old timey" mechanical effects don't matter. you already have bought in.

It’s sooo old that its technical achievements are worse than passé, but the dark story and its critique of western publishing “imperialism” is more relevant than ever.
As is its existential commentary on the nature of wealth and the American Dream.
I thought it was worth watching just to see what everyone was talking about.
I am less enthused with the direction and blocking than some, but still think it’s a decent picture.

The use of colour in a black and white drama. Seems cliche but it isn’t and wasn’t in film.
The typical Spielberg blocking and framing. Is it “groundbreaking” maybe not but it’s smart efficient and impactful. Without realizing it it sucks you in, makes the world less flat, it adds so much, and so few directors can really use it. So while a whip pan or a dollying focus pull or a subtle blocking might not seem ground braking, using them at those times in those ways can jar you as an audience member, drag you further in to the film.
He’s genius.

This fact is soo overlooked.
At 70.
After happy feet Struggling with weather and actors and studio meddling and finances…
Dude just waltzed in, slapped Hollywood in the face, said “no you idiots, like THIS!” dropped the mic and laughed all the way to fame fortune and glory.
That doesn’t happen

Congo is the closest I have ever come to walking out of the theatre.
dead in the middle between them is the Fast and Furious 2009

Reply to Jamie Lee Curtis in TRADING PLACES: What was the point of having her in it aside from exposing her breasts? by Lili_Danube
the "hooker with a heart of gold is an old trope.... so i can see where you might not look beyond that.
but I think.Thematically she represents true love.
The movie is all about undermining the perceptions. the rich are vain and greedy and cruel untrusting and untrustworthy. Penelope without even bothering to listen to the man "she loves" just condemns him and casts him aside.
In a world full of people who are shallow, fakes, liars, and cruel, despite the wealth and power to do good. It is Ophelia, at the very bottom of the society, who is the best, most altruistic character.
She is the only one who never betrays her ideologies, never takes advantage, never hurts anyone, she only helps and supports and and heals.
when we meet her Ophelia is hiding her true self behind her wigs and fake voice, playing a joke she thinks. but when she sees the real harm she caused she can't just walk away. she HELPS.
at first she is distant and cold and seems to want to keep her costume and her adopted "hooker" persona. a cash transaction. But why? because she is "responsible" for some of Louis' plight and she can't just walk away....as she learns Louis' story she opens up more and more...and when she takes her disguises off, along with her bra ironically, she begins to show her true self as a smart capable women with a plan. and even begins to be vulnerable.
then they grow and become friends and ultimately they fall in love. truelove that isn't hindered by her status or her past or the class divide between them...in the end after all the hijinks and gaffs and jokes and the revenge they take......she is the love of Louis' life. and they "live happily ever after" on the giant pile of money they made.
