Supply and demand. Little supply means they usually get what they ask for. And now that the COVID rent moratorium is over, landlords are being really picky about new tenants.

You can try unplugging everything that is not being used. Even in the off position some things still draw power. My house is almost all electric. I have a 1200 sqft house with a detached garage. Our bill averages about that. We switched our hot water and heat to propane some years ago and that saved us money.

Unless it’s a crazy blizzard, the state does a pretty good job of keeping highways clear. In my 29 yrs of living here (transplant from MA) the only place I really had issues was Nashua. They never seem to clear the sidewalks.

Depending on where you live, MA is not that far so you can go when the need arises. Also, try visiting a larger liquor store. They usually have a bigger selection.
