If the NPC is experiencing fear and pain it's a sophont being experiencing qualia (just like you). That makes it a living creature worthy of civil rights.

You don't need to be a supervillain to nuke a city. Just decent engineering, a few kilos of plutonium, few grams of tritium and some other slightly exotic parts.

Yeah but he has ACL 2.0 now.

Reply to comment by Primus_Pilus1 in What would the "elite" be doing if they thought AGI was about to happen? by sideways
If AGI is civilized, it offers them comfort and power, or it may just murder hobo them "for the greater good". Could go either way.
Primus_Pilus1 t1_iuzg388 wrote
The elites would be making stockpiles of rarer elements that less likely to be found in the asteroid belt. Independent power, farm land, etc. If an AGI cooks up a fusion generator and a cornucopia machine, rare (but necessary) elements will be required short term, for a few years until AGI begins to industrialize the solar system. More exotic, high performance alloys (like rhenium for high temp jet compressor metal) & machines.

Actual engineers are generally level 3 or level 4 of tech support chains.

Among others. There is a 'narrative' pushed in school and the establishment has been far too dogmatic in several fields to even acknowledge catastrophism as a legitimate school of thought.

I don't actually feel weird about it because I reject the premise of your first sentence.
I totally believe as my hypothesis (with some logic and research) that there have been multiple civilizations in the past and that the last civilization was destroyed by the Younger Dryas Event. (mass small asteroid strikes across northern hemisphere)

Until it has it's own vertically integrated support ecology (fuel, power, structures, bandwidth) and completely and totally backed up such that humanity combined couldn't stop it, it would absolutely make sense for it to have a dull front end and hide.

Empathy is a sliding scale across a species. There are plenty of folks like you, indifferent. But there are the gardening types, forest tenders and wildlife management folks that do care deeply about lesser creatures. So I'm hope the AGI likes gardening.
