If they can save 300K and interest on a house I dont think the taxes will matter. especially the difference in home cost will likely save them taxes- or be able the same.
There's a lot higher tax rates out there. I'm one of em.

I know. I just didn't feel like going on... they might say that's not "east" it's the South coast.

Groton is so pretty in in top 5% of schools. If you want green space and hiking, rowing, etc it would be hard to beat. https://www.grotontrails.org/Interactive_Maps.html#map=14/42.60800/-71.57200
Great restaurants around. Nice little downtown. 20 minutes to all the of shopping in Nashua.

It def gets into excellent schools - especially since commute isn't a big issue.
I get not 1% of performing schools - but totally lots of top 5% schools.

If you feel all obsessed with a certain interpretation of 2A might not like it. You have to wait until you are 14, pass a very basic firearms course, fill out paper work and they ask you if you've had guns "stolen" in the past, using an alias, are a citizen, etc. Pay between 25 and 100 bucks. They'll do a check and let you know when you are approved.
So if those seem onerous to you, you wont like Mass.

There's like 190 miles of Massachusetts coast. You should say which region you are considering. North shore? South Shore? The Cape?

Jerks ruin it for everyone. People use LLCs to avoid child support and taxes of all sorts. Property buyers use DOZENS of LLCs to obscure their actions. Basically Mass makes the business owner pay for it and doesn't subsidize it.

Areas directly near ocean or commuting time to Boston are pricey. Jump out to just beyond and hour and 15 minutes from Boston and affordability will jump.
There are different requirements for teaching here so you'll want to make sure that's sorted first.

Boston. For lots of reasons but main one - I really couldn't be away from the ocean.
But the surrounding land is pretty boring near Toronto. I like the New England landscape. The natural beauty is prettier.
I could go for the medical care costs and college costs of Canada though.

Not everyone has study hall though. I think my kid will only his senior year. And buses still have to go.
I think just have the buses pick up for high school AFTER elementary instead of the other way around.

Reply to Beaver watching in Mass (or NE in general)? by ThaMac
Along the Rutland rail trail right about HERE there is a beaver lodge RIGHT next to the trail. Sometimes it comes out and stares at you f you are too close. He also does the beaver flap to threaten you.
There are also a few other ponds on this trail very close with several other beavers.

I doubt someone is going to come in and get a good bartending job there.
I think you should think of an alternate plan. Maybe start as a waiter and show someone you are worth considering.

Do you have bikes? You could go to Provincetown on the ferry and ride to the beach (or just uber).

I hope early in Oct. A bit before peak is way better than a bit after peak.
FYI it's just past agricultural fair time.
It's over the border in VT. Go to Scott Orchards. They are serious about apples and have the most heirloom apples and it's super fun to go and get 20 kinds of apples you never had and taste test them. And it's pretty niche but if dry masonry and stone walls interest you... it's your place.

Have a picnic at the Mount. Edith Wharton's. It's free to use the grounds and the house costs money and is just meh-- as far as our amazing historic homes go.
Do Montague Book mill, drive to the top of Mt Sugarloaf for the view, and go to Northampton for people watching, food, Herrell's .
