Old people live up North. Southern Maine (with Portland as the hub) has a full array of age ranges and activities. Wife and I moved here when we were 25 and we haven’t looked back. Great place to live and raise a family. That’s assuming you can find housing of course.

What’s your income level? Housing prices have doubled for the most part over the last 3 years. So an average $200K home now goes for $400K+.

Southern Maine is the more diverse/accepting area of the state but it’s also the most expensive. Most of the jobs are found here.

1-bedroom apartments are now going for $1500+ in the Portland area (our largest city).

OOB is known as somewhat of a white trash type of town. Bad schools, kinda rundown in many sections. With that said I love OOB and consider it to be the best beach in Maine.

I almost pulled the trigger on a 3 bedroom home within walking distance to the beach, was going for under $200K back in 2017/2018. We ended up buying in Portland so no regrets there.

With an older home replacing the windows and making sure your home is airtight, sealed and well insulated is going to be more beneficial than trying to go with solar energy. Your heat/cooling system is still going to leak/waste energy if you don’t fix the core issues of the home.
