Ulysses is made to be enjoyed lol. I get what you're trying to say though. I've just never came across a book that I didn't enjoy because the prose was too complicated.
Where do you draw the line between books that are for standard entertainment and books that aren't? Should all genre fiction be written as plain as possible?

Idk I enjoy prose like that. If I have to slow down a little and really focus, it's usually an enjoyable book. Nabokov, McCarthy, Pynchon, Joyce, all fantastic authors.

I don't really ever see people getting shamed for skipping books. I do see countless posts of insecure people looking for validation because they didn't finish a book. These literature bullies don't really exist, it's just weird people who need the internet to tell them they it's ok to read YA books, or quit a book half way through

I don't care what other people do, but I would never skim. I mostly read to enjoy good prose and cool ideas, so just getting the gist of the plot isn't really beneficial

I've only read Wuthering heights and Jane Eyre. While Jane Eyre is fantastic, Wuthering Hieghts is one of my favorite books of all time.

That's fair but I do frequently do the latter with authors like Weir and Sanderson, but I'm admittedly a little mean spirited. Don't even get me started on imagine dragons in a music discussion

I'm all for criticizing a book you don't enjoy, but it's weird to criticize a book when you didn't understand it. It always says more about the reader than the book

I haven't read it yet but I'm excited to, I've read nothing but good things about it as a piece of experimental, stream of consciousness writing.
The people that enjoyed the book are probably more intelligent than you or at least more familiar with that kind of writing. I'm excited to start it soon

Those kind of books are so ridiculously bad. The irony is a lot of people wouldn't want to be friends with someone who finds a book like that deep

This sub worships Weir and Sanderson, but shits on CoHO and 50 shades of gray, which is funny because they're all equally low in quality
