Something closest to neutral or harman is usually the easiest to EQ assuming the driver is of equal quality. Even if you hate that FR target it's a great baseline to work off of.
Not sure if you mean in technical ability like mids are easier to boost than lows and highs?

For sure a win for consumers with the heavy competition but the <$100 price bracket is getting so competitive that it's getting boring. You can pretty much throw a dart at a wall of IEM's and get a good one, it mostly just comes down to preferred tuning, fit, accessories.

HifiGo uses a caliper for nozzle size on a lot of IEM's like this. I wish it was consistent though, many don't have measurements posted.

Not trying to promote these but I got this in my email and it made me laugh. They look like cheap gamer gear but it still piqued my interest. AR headphones for the Metaverse what a time to be alive.

A lot of the manufacturers are cutting costs on the boxes. I don't put them out for show anyway so I'm all for it if they can keep prices lower. (Yeah I know the 6XX has gone up in price but it's still $200 every few months which I think continues to be a good value.)

I think this is the case for a number of AKG audio products but they always seem to pop up again back on sale. They must have warehouses of these things just sitting around.
Reviews seem solid though, so for $60 it's probably tough to beat. I have the AKG N400 IEM's and the noise cancelling is unimpressive but I bought them more for sound so they were a great buy @ $48 although a bit bulky.

Good review compilation. I'm surprised you hated the DT900X so much. 4XX seems on point. A friend has had the 4XX almost 3 years and still working but another had 3 pairs fail (I think all within a year).

Go to an audiologist and get your hearing tested. In the newer versions of EQ APO / Peace there's a hearing test you can do which may help some.
You can easily balance a headphone L/R using EQ but hearing damage can come in different flavors so all frequencies may not have the same issues which makes things trickier to balance properly, and it may be impossible to get perfect.

The IE600 is great but they definitely have some QC issues with driver failure. It seems to mostly happen within the 1st month on most of the issues I've seen. Sennheiser should deal with the problem and it has a 2 year warranty, it sucks they've been so unresponsive. Personally I would just re-buy for less and hope you don't get another lemon.

That sucks, I've read they have some QC issues. A recent post said some of the metal faceplates don't "sync" with the base properly and is a known issue.
The reviews have been very good for sound and I've considered getting one but $600 + tubes + s/h + tax makes it a bit out of my price range and QC issues just add to it.

The foam filter I'm talking about is in the eartips, the IEM itself still has a grille and internal filter like this. There are many IEM's with more open ports if you're concerned about wax or debris getting in the IEM itself. You can take the foam out of the stock eartips though and put it in other ones but I don't know how well it would stay in. The Senn IE Pro eartips have foam filters in as well but don't have paper-thin silicone like the IE300/600/900 stock eartips (I think IE200 as well).

This is a really helpful list, it's another rabbit hole to go down. It's most important they feel comfortable and seal well but you can tweak the tonality of the IEM a bit by tip rolling.
I use Final E tips because it tames the spicy treble a bit. Other than Final E, many people seem to like AZLA's (multiple models all a little different), Senn IE Pro tips, SpinFits (multiple models, W1 is the newest but may increase treble a bit), Spiral Dots, Spring Tips. The HeadFi IE600 thread has a lot of comments about different eartips.
You can get a lot of eartips off Ali Express for dirt cheap including popular brands if you don't mind the wait. Some like AZLA are expensive everywhere.

Luckily I've never had connection issues with the IE600 but the cable has microphonics and the ear hooks took a lot of bending to get them in a position I don't mind (still not great).
Tons of complaints on the HeadFi thread about the stock eartips and cable so it looked like they might fix things with the IE200, so it's unfortunate to hear they still couldn't get it right.

All their IEM's that I know of have the filter foam stuff inside but I think it's easy to remove. The IE600 stock eartips are junk anyway.

> edit: if you decide to swap out the tips, placing the tip for the second tuning option will be harder, the stock tips have something in it that hold the tip in place.
You can put some o-rings on the stem to keep eartips from sliding down to the other position. I've seen some people cut out the stems from other eartips and use that but o-rings are probably easier.
