For education jobs, both teaching and university staff, absolutely not. Nobody worked from home. We just weren't set up to do much online. (There was a reason there are separate universities that advertise as purely online). We had to get courses available online very quickly, using ancient systems, and I don't think people fully appreciate how quickly we did this!

No, not in higher Ed. It's very different than private industry. Usually there is a grid based on years of experience and level of education. The highest end is reserved for someone with a PhD and like 25 years experience.

I was in my late 20s and had the money, I even took a homebuying course..and yet was afraid to pull the trigger. It's tough when you're single and don't have any family to counsel you either....I feel like if I had had even one person to ask "hey, is this a good idea?", I would have done it. Sadly, no reddit to ask back then either. It sucks that I STILL don't have anyone to talk to about this but reddit.

Can someone please explain why you're downvoting me? All I want to know is if this is the anti union people or if it's the pro union people who are willfully misinterpreting what I'm saying, when I think it's pretty clear that I've said that public unions need to have more negotiating power or we are never going to get anything.

Whoever keeps downvoting me, please take a look at what educator unions are going through right now. It's horrible. If you don't know, I suggest following MTA. No, we can't "just demand more" and get it. I don't know if these comments are anti union sentiment from those who refuse to believe how little power unions have when there is a no strike clause.

I did this once and went to a townie bar and got lots of weird looks. Big mistake. If I did it again, I'd go to a touristy bar. Or like a wine bar, where it's much more common for a young woman to be there alone.

It's an actual health code violation. Just because some restaurants seem to ignore this, the ones that don't shouldn't be vilified. If the health inspector makes a surprise visit, you're getting shut down or at least fined.
