use the zip toggle / snap toggle / Toggler version of toggle bolts instead of the spring-loaded ones. The Toggler version are easier to deal with.
Toggle bolts can go behind the lathe and plaster or the drywall; they expand inside the wall cavity.

Only the lathe, not the studs? If they’re in the studs they’re fine. Only the lathe worries me less; I thought they were only in drywall

That’s probably fine. Make sure it’s paintable (most silicone caulk isn’t paintable). Avoid clear; if your shelves are white, use white caulk (be careful; the labels of white and clear look a lot alike). You don’t need waterproof.

Those screws need to be swapped out ASAP.
Get familiar with strap toggles (also called snap toggles, zip toggles and Togglers). You can just push them in at the existing holes in the plaster (take the wood off first, and use the same holes in the wood)

Oh, you need to watch this video. He points out all the reasons your caulk job failed. I used his method, which relies on a caulking tool, and my tub looks new 3 years later.
Basically: Tape pulls up the edges Using your finger produces these this layers that peel up. Misting soapy water lets the water run behind the caulk and it doesn’t stick.
Here’s my one additional truck to keep it from being messy: cut a bunch of paper towels into 4” squares. Put them by your knee as you work. Also have an open-top trash can with a liner. When you wipe a section of the caulk with the tool, you’ll need to clean the tool before swiping the next section. Use one corner of a square; then the next, etc. this makes it easy to tell which you’ve used, and you can drop it in the trash can when you’ve hit all areas. (Using a wet cloth was so messy because I couldn’t tell where I’d wiped already.
Also—he suggests a caulking tool that has lots of nifty features. You can get less expensive tools without them for about $8 or $9

You forgot that you should remove the dust before painting.
I find a sacrificial microfiber cloth is really good. And then run a damp cloth over it afterward.

Is the dog’s ball still going to get stuck between the threshold and the PVC? Maybe a pool noodle would fill that gap. Too bad they’re such garish colors.

No it’s even better? Chocolate chips are semisweet chocolate! Semisweet is the perfect ratio; milk chocolate is to sweet, and dark chocolate is too sharp. I have searched and searched and never really found a good semisweet chocolate bar.

No, it wasn’t the color. The color didn’t matter at all.
It was the presence of the people going to a lot of work to paint the office. Each time they came, it was a shot in the arm.
The changing lights aren’t going to do that.

I was told of a study done to find what color of paint improved morale and productivity. So they’d come in and repaint the same office frequently. They discovered it wasn’t the paint color. It was the act of painting and spiffing up the office.

I had a golden pothos plant that I tended to under water. I noticed that it would pick one leaf to abandon; it would turn yellow and brown, and all the other leaves would stay green it was a lesson in prioritizing.

Use caulk. And a caulking tool can get you a nice straight line.
Be sure to use a paintable caulk.
And be extra careful to NOT get clear (the label for clear and the label for white look a little too much alike)

Also note that series have a showrunner overseeing it, so that can help to keep things cohesive even with different directors.
