Having lived in 4 different states, I can say that NJ isn't the worst DMV experience I've had (talking about you Missouri), but it's pretty shitty.

There is nothing that makes me miss living in Virginia more than dealing with a DMV in another state. I don't know how VA does it, but they do it damn well.

I’m from Richmond, VA and drive between Newark and Richmond a good deal, I’ve never had google or Waze try to route me down 301 instead of 95. I’ve found that Waze likes to take me to Baltimore and then down the BW Parkway into DC and then out on 395 back to 95 in Alexandria.

Making the drive tomorrow morning, so we’ll see if it has it figured out yet.

Take 95, but once you get to DE, take DE-1 south and then catch US 301 to the Bay Bridge and then US 50 back to the DC Beltway / I-95. Save a bunch on tolls, and you miss all of Baltimore and most of DC. Delaware recently redid 301 to be all freeway grade, and once in MD, it becomes a surface highway but has no traffic lights.

Can also stay on 301 South in Bowie, MD and take it down into VA and catch I-95 again just north of Richmond. Adds a toll for the Nice Bridge between MD/VA, but if DC / NOVA traffic is crap, it will save time.

Some states still use their own names for them (iPass in IL is the first one that comes to mind), but most toll facilities on the east coast and midwest are compatible with EZPass now.

TX, OK, KS, CA, CO, and that one little shit bridge in Nassau County are some notable places with tolls that don't take it.

EZ Pass map from Wikipedia.

Edit - The Margate bridge by Atlantic City doesn't take EZPass either apparently. I thought I saw an article a few years ago they were going to start taking it. Guess not.

I’m now imagining a paper box (Amazon boxes are corrugated paper, not cardboard. One of the many things I learned in my year working at a box factory.) beating up someone, and honestly, I think it would be better than this video.

There are ferries from Belford to the ferry terminal on W 39th street just above the Lincoln Tunnel. NY Waterway runs busses from there around midtown. I'm not 100% sure, but Seastreak is taking over that ferry route next month, it looks like it still will go to 39th street, but not sure if you'd be able to utilize the busses since it will be operated by Seastreak instead of NY Waterway.

This is the schedule they will be running: https://seastreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Master-Schedule-Pricing.pdf

It interesting that when they added a code in VA that they went with 804. The original numbering plan had area codes with ‘0’ as the middle digit to be assigned to an entire state, and codes with ‘1’ in the middle to be for a portion of a state.

Until I just looked it up, I had always thought it was the opposite because of VA having 804 and 703 when I was growing up.

They changed the name of the new terminal to "New Terminal A" about a year ago. Terminal 1 is no longer a thing.

Also, B is not being demolished, only the old terminal A is. Once that is done, the Port Authority wants to replace the current Terminal B on the foot print of what is now Terminal A. If they do that, they should rename the airport to Elizabeth Liberty Intl since the new A and the new B would be be fully in Elizabeth. Right now Terminal C is the only terminal located fully within Newark.

If and after they do replace B, there was a question about re-doing C on B's footprint, or building a 4th terminal on B's current footprint. PA isn't sure yet.

I fly a few times a year and the last time I flew, I went to JFK to avoid terminal A at Newark. It’s the worst designed terminal of any airport I have ever been in. Terminal B is sightly better, but not far behind. Until the new terminal A opens next month, C is the ONLY terminal at EWR that actually feels like a modern airport terminal.
