I have two corgis and an Aussie and they don’t bother it at all. But our kitchen trash can is built into a cabinet and this one isn’t full of yummy food scraps.

I have a Rubbermaid one that is wonderful. May be more industrial that you might like though. Everything else is crap.

Reply to I bought this Wahl Hair Cutting Kit 15 years ago in 2008 for $20 or so. Works like new and never done me wrong. It must've saved me hundreds, especially working overtime during the pandemic. by Mad_Juju
I have a similar wahl that I bought in 1995 when my wife and I were dating. She has been cutting my hair with it since. I am pretty sure it was like $35 back then, and it's seen a lot of monthly haircuts...

Reply to comment by sparksofthetempest in Not only has my 1985 Sharp VZ2000 survived the death of albums and cassettes, it now bears witness to their revival again nearly 40 years later. Yes, that’s an album, not a 45. These boomboxes are still highly collectible and there is a whole new aftermarket of repair parts to ensure their survival. by sparksofthetempest
Housemate of mine had one in college. Blew my mind when I saw it. Much good music poured forth from it.

Reply to Best bars/restaurants/places to meet people ? Need to expand my going out locations ! by emjohns70843
Do you like bars? Going to bars to meet people will generally only expose you to people who like to go to bars.
Go do the things you enjoy and do them in places where others are doing the same things. Then you will meet people who like the same things as you.
That can be tough for a lot of us who are introverted. It’s hard to do fun hobbies at home and meet others.

Here's a data point: 3000 sqft house made in 1999 with sprayed in urathane insulation in walls and 2+ feet of blown in attic insulation, modern windows etc. I pay about $750 a month in propane to heat it in the winter.

For a mechanical watch, and an old one, a minute a day is pretty good. That’s off by less than 0.1%.
That’s why a vibrating quartz element was such a game-changer.

Reply to Thoughts on Waterfield bags? by this_for_loona
I’ve had them for years. They used to sell a messenger bag with an airline seatbelt buckle and used the fabric you see in a lot of airport chairs.
I got a newer version with a paraglider buckle. The thing I really liked from them is the laptop sleeves. My wife and I have about a half dozen between us. That sleeve and a gear pouch from them and any bag is a safe space for a laptop.
I haven’t bought anything from them in a decade or so, but what I bought from them was very nicely made with good materials.

I have one of those in my office (iPod video) New battery and a big SD card to replace the old small spinner and I have a huge music library at my disposal. Has line out dock and remote too. I love mine and use it all the time.

I second this. I love the leather lined LL Bean slippers. I’ve been wearing them for about 30 years now whenever I’m home. Sadly they only last about 5-8 years for me. Still great imho. They used to be about $65 when I got my first pair and they are now like $120.

Not sure if it’s still this way but for DOD secret clearances used to take 6 months to a year. Companies will hire people and have them work offsite or on sideline stuff while they wait for the clearance to come through and then they can start the real job. 6 weeks seems super fast by comparison.

Look into amish furniture. Very good quality, you can pick your wood, finish, hardware etc. If you live near the amish it can be cheap, if you don't, there are outlets in most urban areas, but expect a markup.
They make everything from the country sort of styles that you'd expect to very modern and timeless designs. Quite good quality.
My wife and I have outfitted our entire house one room at a time that way. Some of it is 30 years old and looks and works like new.
$3500 is possible (without mattress), but only if you are going to amish country. And there are also tiers of amish furniture. That may not get you top shelf hardware etc.
Here's a website to give you an idea, there's a ton of these sorts of websites, this is not an endorsement of this one, just an example:
