In Providence I can drive to somewhere, park, and walk around. In Boston, I can’t park anywhere without getting shafted, so the broken train lines are the only option to get to stuff that isn’t near home.

Be glad you have parking lots instead of parking tickets. Brookline MA has very few public parking lots, and those are metered, and the streets have 2 hour parking at all times, even overnight.

The solution is build more housing. Increase supply to keep up with demand.

Unfortunately nobody wants to lower their property value by having new denser buildings near them, or competition for renters. No landlord wants rents to go down. So they’ll fight every development and slow it down. Every time someone complains about losing the character of their neighborhood just know they’d rather you be homeless.

Its easy to say “fix homelessness” but its not such a simple problem. This isn’t just a Rhode Island thing either, the west coast has way more homelessness.

Not sure individual states can fix what is essentially a product of capitalism.
