it's hard to describe...

I have a high salary, and work in a field that will reliably keep my salary high for the foreseeable future. but I also am still feeling stretched in ways that I wasn't as recently as 2-3 years ago, and have basically abandoned the idea of ever owning a home. I absolutely adore Boston and will never leave, but there's no question the expense of life is getting out of control.

and, thinking on this always make me realize, if people like me are feeling a pinch, then many people around me are likely on the brink. and I worry about how bad things will get...

I grew up northwest of 495 (Leominster, Lunenburg). beautiful area, more affordable (relatively speaking, that is), still a decent amount to do (I mean, it's not the city, but it's not empty, either), and lots of great schools. Littleton and Clinton are also lovely, and closer to 495.

if budget is no object, Groton is within an hour and has incredible schools (public and private). Concord, too. but both are... well, let's just say your average software engineer would probably be the poor person in town lol

as always around here, that's just a transit problem.

I would have no problem living in Boston and working in Waltham, except the only available option is the commuter rail, and then getting to the actual office would involve... an Uber? or shuttle? no idea.

yeah, this thread and article is weird. the city council and city leadership absolutely has the right and responsibility to oversee BPD activities, but that doesn't mean security of sensitive matters isn't important.
