I was IT support, during regular day shift we did some office desktop support work but after hours and weekend was purely manufacturing control systems support (SCADAS, QA stations, production & EPA monitoring, etc out on the lines.

Like you not tiring, I enjoyed the work but it was feast or famine, and famine was boring. Add to that having to change sleep schedule mid work week made it a struggle to not fall asleep waiting for a call.

Yeah, nope. I did something similar as one of the shifts at a manufacturing plant. I called it the hell shift - two day time 8s and then two overnight weekend 12s. The ‘benefit’ was three days off but the fact was that your sleep rhythm was screwed for the six weeks you were on that shift, by then end you didn’t know if you were coming or going.

I mean, they aren't mutually exclusive. Aside from the budget not being a single monolithic pot in either sources of funding or use requirements, a line cook at the dining halls is not much good as a machinist at ARL and vice versa. Or to throw my old job under the buss, as a Systems Designer I would make a shitty Office Admin.

Just know that the layoffs will be in student services staff and facility jobs (while mandating overtime of those left, not in faculty or management. As a local, former staffer, and alum I am very familiar with how this plays out. Executive and faculty positions and pay are protected while those on the lower end of the compensation scale get cut.

As a former registered PA Republican who was voting mostly Dem in state and national races by 2008, do not go independent in PA's closed primary system. You lose your voice in who is on the ballot come November.

While I have my issues with Texas politics I do enjoy being an Independent and being able to vote in the primary of the party of my choice for that cycle.

These days I the only Republican that gets my vote in the general is the county tax assessor because the Dem incumbent is from a political dynasty which I'm not a fan of. However, last year I voted in the Republican primary because O'Rourke had the Dem nomination sewn up (as much as I think he is unelectable in statewide elections).

I've gotten around $1K from there over the years - warranty refunds, class action settlements, even an ancient balance from my college meal plan back in 1991.

Make sure you routinely check the unclaimed funds site for every state you've maintained a mailing address in along with the federal sites
