Second this if you’re looking to visit another city.

DC, Baltimore, NYC, Boston, and the other random smaller cities in between are all only a few hours on Amtrak from 30th street. Gotta love the northeast corridor.

I don’t think that’s true. There is still so much infilling to be done in Philadelphia (look at how many parking lots we have across the city).

While we would all love to see every new build being a super-tall, I think we need to fill in those low density gaps first.

Things go more vertical when there’s less horizontal space. There’s still a lot of horizontal space here.

Fuck that cobblestone on the SRT though.

If Shawmont reopens I might start taking regional there from CC when I want to ride the SRT. Would be good to avoid the upcoming MLK detour nonsense and the Manayunk Tow Path.

The majority of bike lanes here are low quality (non-protected, usually in the door zone, occasionally inches from high speed traffic).

If you look at the 1/22 and 1/27 cyclist murders, both took place along streets with bike lanes. Without further details, I would presume both cyclists were riding in the bike lanes when they were killed.

This is the horrifying part. Our infrastructure is a painted line— maybe it makes you feel safe but there’s nothing stopping a car from crossing it. Bike lanes need to be protected or separated from cars or this will continue to happen.

This is pretty standard practice in NYC/SF/DC/Boston and miles ahead in Europe.

This is completely unacceptable.

We talk plenty in this sub about traditional crime/violence (homicide, assault, robbery, etc), however, you are most likely (by far) to be killed or injured by a vehicle than anything else in this city. Chances are the driver will flee and face no charges to top it off.

Traffic cameras, traffic calming, elevated crosswalks, protected bike lanes, front license plates, the police actually pursuing moving violations at all. Bollards, bollards and more bollards. This is a problem that we know how to solve, City Hall, OTIS and the state at large just choose not to.

This, but make a reservation or be ready to wait.

Idk what changed over the last year, but they have been full house with 1+ hour wait the last few times I’ve been there.

It’s great food and drinks, but I remember it being not as popular lol.

Yeah, for elderly and disabled this is definitely not accessible.

In general, that whole area is pretty anti-pedestrian outside of the park. It’s a sea of parking lots and highway interchanges.

That’s a real shame if the actual people administering the park are encouraging driving. That’s a poor way to get a lot of people in the park, because there simply isn’t enough space, and I don’t think anybody wants the FDR loop jammed with traffic.

It’s still only a 10-minute walk from NRG station— I would consider that pretty walkable, especially since most of that walk is through the park. My big pain point is that when you get out of NRG you need to cross a literal highway to get to the park. Everything outside of the park is pretty anti-human.

That being said, yeah this is pretty shit for folks who aren’t able bodied, and overall I feel like it hides the market away from some of the more trafficked areas.

Less than a month into 2023 and 2 cyclists have already been killed by drivers. Not sure on the pedestrian counts, but would assume it’s even higher.

This is unacceptable. There are common sense infrastructure, policy and policing changes that will fix this, yet city council and the mayor are silent at best and antagonistic at worst.

I would avoid 2 men and a truck. We moved with them 2 years ago, they were 7-hours late (seriously, they were supposed to show at 9AM and didn’t until 4PM), and broke two pieces of our furniture in transit.

The movers themselves were nice, but they were clearly over scheduled and not super experienced which made the whole thing a mess.
